February 2026 Teaching and Learning SIS
  • Teaching and Learning SIS Event:

February Teaching & Learning and Pediartic Practice

    Learning Outcomes:
    • Participants will be able to describe how acquired brain injury affects a child’s motor, cognitive, and emotional development, and identify at least two ways these impairments influence daily functioning and participation.
    • Participants will be able to apply key principles and handling techniques of Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) by demonstrating at least two evidence-based intervention strategies that support functional recovery and improve quality of life for children with brain injury.

Midwestern University’s graduate occupational therapy students will present evidence-based approaches to pediatric brain injury intervention, focusing on Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT). The session will explain how acquired brain injury affects children’s motor, cognitive, and emotional development, and how these changes influence daily functioning. Participants will learn targeted strategies that support recovery, functional independence, and improved quality of life. Key NDT principles and techniques will be demonstrated to show how this frame of reference promotes normal movement patterns and neuromuscular re-education. The presentation will also cover assessment tools, treatment planning, and practical methods to assist children and families. A child or doll is needed for the virtual handling workshop.
