  • Joyce Kallstrom Memorial Scholarship

Joyce Kallstrom grew up in Marion, South Dakota, and spent most of her early and later years between Sioux Falls and Marion. In between those years, she lived in Minneapolis to raise her family. At the age of 83, after battling COPD for many years, Joyce passed away. Joyce was lighthearted and always appreciated a good laugh; she was a tremendous fighter, a helpful friend to others, and a loving mother of four.

Joyce's battle with COPD was long, and she was in the hospital several times. Joyce got to know, understand, and had respect for the role of the respiratory therapists, who she always felt knew the most about her pulmonary care. Joyce was also the mother of a respiratory therapist.

Several years ago, Joyce's family established this scholarship award. The Kallstrom scholarship will be annually awarded to one graduating Respiratory Care Student in South Dakota and one in Minnesota. The American Respiratory Care Foundation, through the establishment of the Joyce Kallstrom Memorial fund, provides the funding to support this scholarship.

If selected, the graduating student will receive $750 and a one-year AARC membership. Deadline for applicants is June 1st.
