  • Welcome to the 2026 NJAC Scholarship Award Application Form

  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a public service organization founded by twenty-two African American women at Howard University on January 13, 1913. These young women wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to people in need.

    The North Jersey Alumnae Chapter was established in 1939 as the first chapter in New Jersey. Chapter members perform community service within the three counties it serves: Essex, Union, and Hudson Counties and have awarded more than $1,000,000.00 in scholarship assistance to young people in the Northern New Jersey area.

    Our purpose is to maintain and encourage high intellectual, cultural, and moral standards; to promote and support achievements in education by granting scholarships to deserving students.

     

  • Scholarship Requirements:

    1. Applicant must be a graduating senior who resides in Essex, Union, or Hudson County.
    2. Applicant must have at least a 3.00 GPA (4.0 scale) or an 80 QPA (100 scale).
    3. Applicant has rendered public service in their community.
    4. Applicant must demonstrate a financial need.
    5. If awarded, applicant must attend a 4-year college/university as a full-time student to be eligible for this scholarship.
    6. ALL APPLICATIONS and REQUIRED MATERIALS (Transcripts, Financial Documents, and Letters of Recommendation) MUST also be received by February 27, 2026. Incomplete applications or applications received after the due date will NOT be processed.

    After Submission:

    • Candidates for consideration will be required to attend an in-person interview with the Scholarship Committee. 
    • Awardees will be contacted by email on or before April 6, 2026.
    • Recipients will be requested to participate in the NJAC Scholarship Luncheon on April 25, 2026.

  • Application Checklist

    ALL of the following must be received on or before the DUE DATE of February 27, 2026.

    1. Completed and signed application form
    2. Proof of Parent/Guardian income, accepted items are:
      • 2025 IRS Tax Transcripts
      • 2025 W2 Form
    3. Official transcript of high school grades (including current cycle grades) to be uploaded with this application
    4. Three (3) letters of recommendation are REQUIRED. After submitting the names of your recommenders, it is your responsibility to ensure that your signed letters of recommendation are submitted as a PDF by the application deadline of February 27, 2026.
      • One (1) academic/school recommendation from a School Counselor, Teacher or School Administrator on official school letterhead
      • One (1) personal recommendation from someone other than a relative (ie: Minister, Coach)
      • One (1) recommendation from a representative from the organization to verify your public service and the number of hours you served on official letterhead

    Items with a red asterisk * are required fields. 

    You will have the option to work on your submission and Save and Continue your application through February 27, 2026.  We recommend completing the application as early as possible.

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation are REQUIRED and must be signed by the recommender.
