WCBC Coach Expression of Interest - Winter 2026
  • Coach Expression of Interest

    Winter 2026
  • Williamstown Cannons proudly supports over 600 young athletes each season — made possible by the passion, commitment and generosity of our volunteer Coaches.

Coaching at Cannons is about more than basketball. It’s about creating safe, positive environments where our young athletes can grow in confidence and belonging, while being supported in both their personal development and their basketball journey.

We take that responsibility seriously, which is why we invite Expressions of Interest for all coaching roles each season — to ensure we appoint the best possible coaches for our teams and have the right support structures and child safety processes in place.

To help us plan season transition smoothly, we ask that all Coach Expressions of Interest are submitted by Sunday 1 March 2026.

  • COACHING HISTORY

  • Cannons Membership Tiers will be trialled in Winter 2026, recognising that our junior athletes and families look for different things from their basketball at Cannons.

This approach allows us to better support a broader range of goals, experiences and pathways across our community.

    Traditional Domestic (all age groups)

Cannons basketball as you know it.

Teams train once a week for 60 minutes on a half court with support from our Director of Coaching.

Cannons Traditional Athletes can also access HABITS monthly sessions on a pay-as-you-go basis, along with all club events, promotions and benefits. Athletes wanting a 2nd game is on a best efforts basis.

Fees remain at the standard rate.

    Performance Domestic (U12+ age groups)

Built for Cannons teams who want more — more growth, more confidence, stronger teamwork.

Performance Domestic keeps everything teams love about domestic basketball, while adding greater development and more opportunities to improve together. Where available, athletes are prioritised for a second game to build confidence and game experience.

Teams train 60–90 minutes weekly in a squad environment plus receive enhanced support, including regular Loaded Sessions with Justin Schueller, consistent Director of Coaching support, and half-price access to HABITS monthly sessions.

To support the intent of the program, Cannons Performance athletes are prioritised for a second game where available.

Fees are $195 higher per athlete per season to reflect the additional programs, support, court hire and other expenses.

If you would like further information or support regarding team options, please email Rebecca Shipway - president@williamstowncannons.org.au

  • COACH ED NIGHTS

Each school term, Justin Schueller hosts club funded Coach Ed nights to support and up-skill our Coaches so they can best support our young athletes.

We strongly encourage all Coaches to attend these sessions as part of our commitment to positive, consistent coaching across the Club.

Coach Ed is usually held at Willy North PS Mondays 5-7pm

  • All Expressions of Interest are thoughtfully reviewed to ensure we appoint the best possible coaches for our teams and uphold the standards and values of Williamstown Cannons. Recommendations are made in consultation with the Director of Coaching and the Players & Coaches Subcommittee, and in some cases a short conversation may form part of the process.

Coaching appointments are made by the WCBC Committee, guided by what is in the best interests of our athletes and the broader Cannons community. Final decisions will be confirmed in writing prior to the commencement of the season.
