Dear Potential Scholarship Recipient,
Tuney Outreach Center for Advancement, Inc. (TOCA) was incorporated as an official certified 501(c)3 non-profit organization in October 2014. Since that time, TOCA has strived to be a premier charitable organization. Our volunteers are a collective group of residents with diverse backgrounds, who are dedicated to making a positive impact in the Claiborne County community.
We are pleased you are considering applying for the Judge Daniel Lucas Memorial Scholarship offered by Tuney Outreach Center for Advancement, Inc. The Judge Daniel Lucas Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Judge Lucas by supporting students in their pursuit of higher education. This scholarship is awarded to individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, strong leadership qualities, and a commitment to serving their community. Through this scholarship, we celebrate Judge Lucas’s dedication to justice and lifelong passion for learning. "You Can't Beat an Education" was one of his favorite quotes. The scholarship amount will be $500.00 for the 2026 school year.
ELIGIBILITY
- Have a 2.75 cumulative grade point average or better on a 4.0 scale
- Be a resident of Claiborne County.
- Majoring in Agriculture or Criminal Justice
- Graduating senior from Port Gibson High School or College Freshmen
- Plan to attend a college or university in fall of 2025 (verification of enrollment will be required before scholarship is presented)
REQUIRED MATERIALS
- Resume include membership in school and community organizations, offices held and leadership responsibilities; honors and awards; and future goals
- Official high school transcript or college transcript (Transcript must include the cumulative GPA, signature of designated school official and/or raised school seal).
- One (1) letter of recommendation from individual other than family members who are familiar with your accomplishments. This can be a community representative or school official (teacher, counselor or principal)
- Recent professionial photo
- Submission of an essay (should be at least 1 page, single spaced and typed)
- Essay Topic for Criminal Justice majors - Juvenile Justice and Rehabilitation – How effective are rehabilitation programs for young offenders?
- Essay Topic for Agriculture majors - The Economic Challenges of Small-Scale Farmers – Analyzing the struggles of small farmers and potential solutions to ensure their success in today's world.
