  • Peoples Gospel Church is joyfully preparing for our Summer Camp 2026! This carefully planned program will provide meaningful coaching and training for young people who are passionate about investing in younger lives.

    Our vision is:

    1. Equip Grade 8 and above youth to grow as capable, Christ‑centered leaders who can impact younger children with love and care.

    2. Build up children spiritually through a fun, Bible‑based camp led by dedicated Christian youth and young adults who serve as mentors.
    “Let the little children come to Jesus and experience His love through us.”

    3. Reach out to youth in Grades 6–8 by offering a life‑changing, welcoming, and supportive camp. Through fellowship with Christ‑centered young people, they will discover their value in Christ, build a strong spiritual foundation, and form lasting friendships as they grow.

    To fulfill this vision, we are hiring passionate and experienced young individuals to serve as Camp Counselors. Counselors will work closely with our Youth Development Coordinators to plan and lead a vibrant summer camp that nurtures children and strengthens families in our community.

     

    Camp Counselors

    Who we’re looking for:
    Students completed Grade 11 or above, including those in college or university.

    Job Summary:


    As a Camp Counselor, you are a Christ‑follower and leader. At our in‑person children’s summer camp, you will be guided by Youth Development Coordinators while mentoring and shaping younger Counselors‑in‑Training (CITs).

    You will serve, teach, and care for children and youth campers, working alongside CITs to create a safe, fun, and faith‑filled environment.

    What makes a great candidate:

    • A committed Christian who attends church regularly and is active in, or has experience with, children’s ministry.
    • A team player with good communication skills and a positive attitude
    • Caring, patient, fun‑loving, motivated, and able to take initiative
    • Previous experience in volunteering or leading summer camps is an asset
    • Genuine passion for working with children and empowering them
    • A role model who leads by example and points others to Christ
    • Demonstrates maturity, enthusiasm, politeness, and cooperation.
    • Strong ability to prioritize tasks, manage time well, and adapt to flexible work schedules.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to prevent and resolve conflicts.
    • Cantonese and/or Mandarin language skills are an asset for communicating with new immigrant families.

    Work Term

    • Dates: June 29 – Aug 11, 2026 
    • Requirement: Full‑time commitment. No partial weeks, days, or vacation allowed
    • Preparation for Camp weeks: Work time runs June 29 – July 10, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at MCBC. After dismissal, you’ll spend time preparing for group work and connecting in the evenings. Expect a full 40‑hour work week.
    • Camp Weeks: July 13 – Aug 6  (8am to 5:10pm)
      • 2 weeks: Children’s camp (ages 4–11)
      • 2 weeks (8 days): Youth camp (ages 12–15)
        • Aug 5: Tentative Youth Sleepover night at MCBC (dismissal at 4pm, sleepover starts 7pm, team dismissal on Thursday 1pm)
        • Aug 7: Team evaluation and clean up day (9am-3pm)
    • Aug 9-11: post‑camp followup and planning for ministry follow‑up (Location and time TBA)
    • Team Bonding: 2 events will be scheduled during the work term.

    Hiring Conditions

    • Camp depends on CSJ approval and successful rental of Camp Venue
    • Only shortlisted qualified candidates will be contacted for interviews.
    • Mandatory Police Vulnerable Sector Check clearance required before camp begins (for those 18+ at the work term's start date).
    • Upon confirmation of hiring, all candidates must go through and get a Valid CPR level C, Emergency (or standard) First Aid certificate.

    Pay / Honorarium

    This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ), with approval expected in April 2026.

    • If approved, counselors will be paid Ontario minimum wage for the full work term (June 29 – Aug 11, 2026)
    • If funding is not approved, the role may become volunteer‑based, as with other church ministries. In that case, the church will provide a certificate of service and honorarium after camp.

    Application

    • Suitable candidates will be invited for an interview.
    • Offers will be made after all the interviews have been completed.
    • The application window will close once all positions are filled.

    Sample Work Duties During the Hiring Period

    Camp Counselors will be supervised by the Youth Development Coordinators and Family Pastor, who will guide and mentor them in a Christ‑centered environment. Counselors will:

    • Invest in younger Counselors‑in‑Training (CITs), encouraging their growth and leadership.
    • Serve and bless children campers by helping plan and lead camp activities.


    Training and Responsibilities

    You will be trained to work closely with other team members under the direction of the Youth Development Coordinators to:

    1. Follow all church policies and procedures (including incident reports) to ensure camper health and safety.
    2. Attend required training programs, including Plan‑to‑Protect®, orientation, and team‑building sessions.
    3. Comply with venue safety and emergency guidelines.
    4. Step out of your comfort zone, take on challenges, and use the VBS curriculum to plan camp schedules and activities that build character.
    5. Create and lead a safe, educational, and community‑building camp experience for children and youth.
    6. Support and strengthen CITs through clear, positive communication.
    7. Serve as a role model for CITs.
    8. Participate in and lead morning devotions.
    9. Join daily counselor briefings/debriefings and lead CIT briefings/debriefings.
    10. Assist with extended camper pickup times on a rotating basis if needed.
    11. Complete evaluation reports for the team and camp; receive feedback regularly.
    12. Help with camper follow‑up, such as delivering materials or rewards.
    13. Prepare a final evaluation report for the Community Programs Director.
    14. Contribute to long‑term vision by connecting campers and team members to the church and community resources beyond camp.
