    Part 1 - Vision and Qualification

    Our vision and Project information:

    With a strong vision to build up next generation as passionate leaders, Peoples Gospel Church is excitingly planning our children and youth summer outreach and development with youth & children ministries from May to August 2025.

    We are hiring ONE(1) Community Programs Director this year.  He or she will be the one who creates and develops a vibrant and impactful children and youth development program that builds up young lives.    This candidate will be mentored and supervised by the Family Pastor of PGC and closely working with 2 other pastors who are also building up young people.


    Summer is a leadership and community building engine in our ministry.  This is a strategy aiming to invest in young people's lives through the existing resource of our church community so we can build a healthy, uplifting and serving group of young people who will be modelled to love children and youth.

    Our vision is to create community building strategy to achieve a three-fold purpose of

    1. Building a group of post secondary youth leaders (Youth Development Coordinators) to transform community.  You will get to know them, guide and empower them through this summer project with quality and meaningful project for growth of their own and that of the younger team they will be leading.

    2. Ensure these coordinators to passionately develop a summer ministry for building Grade 8-12 youth team, so that they will become passionate and capable leaders to make an impact on younger children that reflects Christ's love for all people

    3. Building up children spiritually by enjoying a fun-filled Bible camp experience led by Christian youth and young adults who are dedicated to mentor them. Let the little children come to Jesus and experience His love through us. We are looking for passionate and experienced young individuals for such exciting vision and mission.

    The ideal candidate will be:

    • a mature Christian with a genuine relationship with God; active in church and ministry.
    • Minimum 1 year experience as Camp Manager/Director (or equivalent), with strong references.
    • Proven ministry experience leading children and youth.
      Demonstrates enthusiasm, respect, and cooperation.
    • Post-secondary age (college/university level) at project start.
    • Enjoys working with children and youth; patient, positive role model and mentor.
    • Committed to Plan to Protect® training standards and protocols (safe, abuse-free environment).
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Team player with ability to build relationships across age groups.
    • Skilled in prioritization, time management, organization, and flexibility.
    • Competent in visual communication and social media (flyers, posters, short videos).
    • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to prevent and resolve conflicts.
    • Preferred: experience with online meeting platforms, graphic/video editing and production.
    • Cantonese and/or Mandarin language ability an asset.
    • Mandatory Police Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
    • Valid CPR Level C (within 2 years) and Emergency/Standard First Aid
      certification.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    Under the supervision of pastors and leaders, you will plan and lead the summer project with clear goals, guiding your team to invest in the well-being of children and youth while modeling Christian passion and excellence.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Lead young leaders to serve with care and intentionality, blessing children through camp ministry.
    2. Shine for Christ in the community by supporting families, children, and coordinating volunteers.
    3. Assist pastors with registration, execution, feedback collection, and overall project planning.
    4. Keep the Family Pastor informed of progress and urgent matters.
    5. Promote high standards of mental, emotional, and social well-being for youth and children.


    Children’s and Youth's Camp Leadership:

    • Supervise the Youth Development Coordinators Team, including the Chief Coordinator.
    • Oversee program planning, schedules, databases, and communication networks.
    • Provide guidance, assign tasks, and give timely feedback to Vice Coordinators, Counsellors, and trainees.
    • Ensure smooth execution of the VBS curriculum and administrative details.
    • Maintain organized records and reporting structures.


    Teamwide Responsibilities:

    • Uphold health and safety policies, including incident reporting.
    • Attend required training (Plan-to-Protect®, orientation, program training, team-building).
    • Pioneer and implement an in-person camp program from scratch.
      Plan and analyze curriculum to deliver a healthy, educational, community-building experience.
    • Engage with church leaders to connect children with community service opportunities.
      Communicate clearly, organize manpower, and model strong character and leadership.
    • Lead morning devotions, daily briefings, and debriefings.
    • Develop creative outreach to parents and campers, including post-camp worship celebrations.
    • Manage registration receipts, monitor camp operations, and provide daily evaluations.
      Follow safety and emergency procedures.
    • Prepare final evaluation reports and conduct exit interviews.
    • Cast vision beyond summer camp, connecting campers and youth teams to ongoing church resources.

    Work schedule

    Dates: May 26 – Aug 11, 2026  

    • Full‑time commitment. Expect 40 hours per week.
    • No partial weeks, days, or vacation allowed during the work term.
    • During the job period, you are expected to join PGC Sunday services and post worship ministries so that you can fully connect and serve the community.
       

    May 26th - June 19th (4 Full weeks for mentorship, community development and ministry preparation)  

    • You will lead the Youth Development Coordinator(s) while being mentored by PGC pastors in both spiritual growth and practical ministry skills.
    • Under their guidance, you will learn to study, plan, develop, and lead pastoral ministries that help younger youth grow in faith and community.
    • You will assist in planning and leading weekly youth programs with youth leaders, with opportunities to lead sports nights, outings, and teach Bible lessons.
    • By participating in and shadowing pastoral visitations (where appropriate), you will also gain insight into the caring and relational side of ministry.

     

    • Sample Weekly time during this period: 
      • Mainly work from home and 1 day reading and Word ministry,
      • 1.5 day VBS planning and admin, 
      • 1.5 day youth week planning and admin, 
      • 1 day PGC ministry visit/follow-up follow-up, interviewing volunteers, getting familiar with campers
      • Weekly in person team meeting on Thursday morning mentoring and training with all pastors and the Community Project Director

    June 22-June 26 (1 week by which ALL CAMP PLANS AND DETAILS COMPLETED)

    • ALL CAMP PLANNING and Job assignments for all team members MUST BE DONE THIS WEEK, FOR Counselors & CITs to implement next week


    June 29-July 10 (2 WEEKS of full team preparation)

    During these two weeks, the entire team—including all Counselors and Counselors‑in‑Training—will work together to prepare for summer camp.

    • Schedule: 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at MCBC.
    • After dismissal, additional time will be spent on group preparation and evening communication.
    • Commitment: Full 40‑hour work week
    • Focus: Planning and delivering a dynamic, fun‑filled, leadership‑building camp experience for children and youth.
      • Responsibilities: oversee and organize Coordinators, Counselors and CITs so they feel confident and competant to lead for camp.  This includes:
        • Training and equipping camp counselors
        • Preparing materials and activities
        • Organizing outings and camp logistics
           

    Camp Weeks: July 13 – Aug 6 

    On Camp hours: 8:00am - 5:10pm

    • Children’s Camp: 2 weeks (ages 4–11)
    • Youth Camp: 2 weeks (8 days, ages 12–15)
    • August 5: Tentative Youth Sleepover at MCBC
      • Dismissal at 4:00 p.m
      • Sleepover begins at 7:00 p.m
      • Team dismissal on Thursday at 1:00 p.m

    Post‑Camp & Follow‑Up: August 7 – 11

    After all camps conclude, the youth team will focus on evaluation, ministry transition, and planning for the school year. This week will also include team bonding and a fun day.

    • August 7: Team evaluation and clean‑up at MCBC (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)
    • August 9: Camp Celebration Sunday Worship at PCA
    • August 10–11: Post‑camp follow‑up and ministry planning (location and time TBA)

    Team Bonding: 2 events will be scheduled during the work term.

      

    CAMP Location: Markham Chinse Baptist Church (9580 Woodbine Ave, Markham, ON L6C 1H8)

     

    Pay / Honorarium

    • This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ), with approval expected in April 2026.
    • Under Federal government CSJ criteria, the successful applicant will be paid $21.5 per hour, 40 hours per week for from May 26 to Aug 11 (according to the CSJ application approval).

    Interview and Hiring Condition:

    • Camp depends on CSJ approval and successful rental of Camp Venue
    • Only shortlisted qualified candidates will be contacted for interviews.
    • Offers will be made after all the interviews have been completed.
    • The application window will close once all positions are filled. 
    • Mandatory Police Vulnerable Sector Check clearance required before camp begins (for those 18+ at the start date).

    Upon confirmation of hiring, all candidates must go through and get a Valid CPR level C, Emergency (or standard) First Aid certificate.

  • Please provide two references – one (a) must be from your past summer camp leading supervisor, and one other (b) that can be from your church pastors, ministry leader or counsellor or your school teacher.  The referees must be unrelated to you.
