Contracts & Copyrights for Artists
FREE Workshop - Friday, April 17, 6-8pm, virtually via Zoom
About the Workshop:
This "Contracts and Copyrights for Artists" workshop is designed to provide artists with the essential legal knowledge they need to protect and manage their work. Participants will learn key concepts related to contracts and copyrights, including the basics of contract formation, types of contracts relevant to artists (such as commissions, collaborations, and brand deals), and the most important contract provisions to ensure fair compensation and ownership. The workshop covers critical topics like when to formalize agreements in writing, scope of work, pricing, and the difference between work-for-hire and copyright ownership. Additionally, the session delves into the fundamentals of copyright law, differentiating between ideas and expressions, exploring the concepts of derivative works and infringement, and explaining the process and benefits of registering copyrights federally.Throughout the workshop, practical examples and group activities will help attendees apply what they've learned to real-world situations, while ample time for Q&A ensures participants can address their specific concerns. By the end, artists will be equipped with the tools to navigate legal matters with confidence and protect their creative rights.
About the Instructor:
Conner Mulvaney is an Oklahoma attorney who, by day, works on contract law for the State of Oklahoma and, by night, paints in acrylic on canvas. He graduated from OCU School of Law and passed the Oklahoma Bar exam in 2023. He has a passion for service. His main goal in his legal career is to use his knowledge and skills as an attorney to help others create. Conner understands that dealing with complicated contractual matters can distract from the joy of making art, so he seeks to empower artists by providing guidance and assistance with intellectual property and contracts.
