The Shark Is Broken - Audition Request

Please use this form to show your interest in auditioning for one of the available roles for "The Shark is Broken" by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon, and directed by Gary Insch. Auditions will be held at The Toledo Repertoire Theatre, 16 10th Street. Auditioners should enter the parking lot Stage Door to check in. Casting requirements are 3 men. All auditioners will be considered.

Audition date is Sunday FEB. 1. No memorized monologues are needed. Auditioners will be asked to read from sides provided. They may also be asked to do cold readings from the script and some physical movement. Rehearsals start Tuesday, February 24, (read-through) at 6:30 PM at the Toledo Rep lobby. The play runs April 24-May 3, 2026.

The Shark Is Broken

A witty, behind-the-scenes comedy about the making of Jaws. Trapped on a boat while the mechanical shark continually breaks down, actors Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, and Roy Scheider grapple with artistic ego, clashing personalities, and the absurdity of Hollywood. Set in 1974 on the deck of the Orca, The Shark is Broken blends fact and fiction, humor and humanity.

Dry humor with understated charm.ROBERT SHAW (Age 45–55, British) – British (Lancashire, England) born actor and writer; biting wit, brilliant and self-destructive alcoholic, a man's man, a "modern poet-warrior", both tough and sensitive. Known for his gravitas and volatile presence.
