  • Workshop Descriptions: Choose one of the workshops below for the breakout session and note the required materials.

    • Workshop #1: Deck Away
      • Presented by Chidera Oforkansi
      • Description: In “Deck Away,” participants will customize playing cards with their own unique collages. Participants will take their magazine cutouts and carefully arrange them onto their cards. Participants may take full creative liberty with their ideas, and there are no limits to what they can create! Through this workshop, participants will learn the importance of embracing their creativity and experience working with a new medium (playing cards) as a means of expression. Following the completion of their cards, participants can gift them or keep them for themselves.
      • Materials: 1–2 playing cards, magazine(s), glue stick, scissors. Optional: Mod Podge.
    • Workshop #2: Felt Creatures!
      • Presented by Olivia Valenti
      • Description: Participants will use felt to create a creature of their choice. (There will be four premade animal options: a whale, a bear, a turtle, and a monkey.) Felt will be cut and glued onto a piece of cardboard (this can be shaped after the workshop). Participants will have the option to make these into keychains or ornaments at the end.
      • Materials: A range of felt colors, cardboard, glue, scissors, a pencil, and string.
    • Workshop #3: Coo-Coo Chicken Collage
      • Presented by Klara Schnore and Benjamin Hoffman
      • Description: Participants will use a variety of materials from home to create a folk art-inspired mixed-media chicken. The focus of the workshop is to teach participants how to be resourceful and use materials found around the house, which emphasizes creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, and appreciation of the things around us. Learning collage will allow participants to adopt an accessible, expressive art medium applicable in a variety of environments. By incorporating folk art, participants can achieve balance, stable composition, and smooth silhouettes in their piece. Participants will first create a background consisting of whatever they see that fits their vision, then build their chicken from the body up. The piece can include 3D aspects, such as ribbons or buttons. Participants will be able to utilize what they have around them to create a charming chicken collage!
      • Materials: Buttons, ribbon, pencil, colored pencils, construction/colored paper, newspaper, magazines, hot glue, glue stick.
    • Workshop #4: Easy Printmaking at Home
      • Presented by Josh Wilson
      • Description: In this workshop, you will learn two ways to easily print at home with items not usually used for printmaking. The workshop host will show participants how to make rubber eraser stamps, which are great for sketchbooks as well as play-dough printing.
      • Materials: Lino cutter, ink pad (any color), rubber eraser, play dough, paper, items around your house that have textures.
