The FSAT (Forensics Science Assessment Test) was developed in 2006-2007 in response to the changing climate of forensics and forensic science education programs. Representatives from key stakeholders were involved in the exam development process. The ABC has been part of the FSAT examination development and deployment since it's inception. The first examinations were administered in 2008 and the cost was $50/student. The original examination consisted of questions in the following knowledge areas:

- Firearms/Toolmarks
