  • The CAP Scholarship is awarded annually to high school seniors in an amount up to $1,000 each. Applications must be submitted by March 1, 2026.

    Scholarship Overview

    The Wood River Refinery CAP Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who plan to attend a community college or university following graduation. The scholarship is awarded based on the following criteria: education/career goals, community service/involvement, financial need, and academic performance.

    To be eligible, the applicant must:

    • Be a full-time student at a high school in one of the following high schools: 
      Alton, Bethalto, East Alton Wood River, Roxana or Marquette.
    • Be a senior qualified for graduation.
    • Plan to attend a two- or four-year program at a community college or university.
    • Submit a short essay on Why and How you as a student give back to your community now and intend to give back in the future.
    • Submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, community leader, church representative, or volunteer coordinator who can speak to your community service activities.
    • Include a list of school and community activities on the attached scholarship form.
    • Submit current non-official transcripts.
    • Please list any other scholarships you have received.
    • If planning to attend a vocational/technical school, please state reasons for choosing this path. Note that a separate vocational/technical scholarship may be given if eligible applications are received – separate from traditional four-year college education.
    • Optional - Supply short essay stating need of the scholarship, special circumstances in the family, etc.
