Eligibility:

• Must be a Central A & M student senior
• The applicant must be accepted for enrollment or enrolled at an accredited college, university or community college
• Pursuing a degree in an agricultural related field or study leading to a career which impacts the agricultural industry
• The applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student to qualify for the scholarship.
• Applicant must have a GPA of 3.5/4 or 4.5/5 or higher
• The student applying must have a family member (Parent/Grandparent/Aunt/Uncle) in good standing with Farm Bureau
• Qualified applicants must complete an application and mail a certified high school transcript confirming GPA and provide a certified transcript confirming GPA and ACT/SAT scores. Certified transcripts must be submitted in a sealed envelope or electronically via email postmarked March 8, 2026.

Deadline and Review Process:

A group of judges will be selected by the Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation. Applications are scored and ranked by an independent committee appointed by the Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation not affiliated with Shelby County, Shelby County Farm Bureau or Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation.

• Those judges will then provide the three Hunter sisters (Elizabeth Thurman, SuEllen Mackey & Amy Rademaker) with ranking of the top three applications for a final decision.
• The criteria for the scholarship will include:
  • Dedication to academics (GPA and ACT/SAT Score)
  • Community/School/Employment/Activity Success
  • Potential of the student to impact the agricultural industry
  • Essay
  • 3 References
• All information contained in each application will be kept completely confidential.
• All application materials must be received in the SCFB office by 11:59pm March 8, 2026, NO EXCEPTIONS
   

Scholarship Administration:

• The Hunter Legacy Scholarship will continue to be privately funded by the Hunter Sisters.
• One student will be awarded $1500.  Check payable directly to the student upon graduation from Central A & M.

Please provide examples of the three most meaningful/influential activities in which you have particiapted. Descriptions should be no more than two sentences each and could include examples from school, activities, clubs, community involvement, work history, etc.

Attach your typed essay following these guidelines: 

- no more than two pages double spaced

- 12 pt font

- Times New Roman

Please provide this form to a current instructor, coach, employer, or mentor who can speak to your academic performance, peer relationships, and community service involvement. This individual should not be related to the applicant or a staff member with the Shelby, Macon, Christian County Farm Bureau's or the Illinois Farm Bureau. A form can be emailed to each of three references. A completed application will include THREE recommendations.

Letter of Recommendation:

Download the Refence Form found at https://www.shelbycofb.com/hunter-legacy-scholarship and hand this form to your three references for them to complete.

Letter of Recommendations must be recieved by the Shelby County Farm Bureau Foundation by March 8, 2026 for your application to be considered complete.

Printed copies can be picked up at the Shelby County Farm Bureau office.

I understand that should I be selected as a scholarship winner as a result of submission of this application, I will be asked to submit a photograph of myself and/or be photographed for inclusion in local newspapers or publications, and the Shelby County Farm Bureau Facebook page and website for publicity purposes. Recipients will be notified via email the week of April 21-25, 2025. Recipients will be announced and posted to our website by the week of May 12, 2025. A news release will be published June 1, 2025 in our membership newspaper.

We would like to recognize our high school scholarship recipients at their High School Graduation awards night. Please work with us to get that scheduled.

We invite all scholarship recipients to our May board of directors meeting to be recognized for their outstanding academic succes. This will be May 13, 2025 at 7:00 PM at the Shelby County Farm Bureau office.
