Class Descriptions
Introduction to Music and Piano
This course provides a strong foundation on what music is made of, and how it impacts the world. We will study how instruments work and extend the music in the soul. Students will learn the patterns in piano keys, to find and name all the notes by sight, know the difference between beat and rhythm, feel the different musical dynamics, and be able to play 5 Finger scales, and create musical phrases. If you are wondering where to start, this is the place.
Piano Level 1
This course assumes a working knowledge of the notes and patterns of the keyboard. Students should already be able to recognize all the notes on the keyboard by sight, not having to “count” them up. The course focuses on connecting the notes on the keyboard to the staff. We will study musical dynamics, 1-octave scales, how to read music in simple hand positions, and playing with a smooth touch.
Piano Level 2
This course assumes an understanding of the keyboard and the staff. Students should come being able to recognize and play all of the notes on the staff by sight, not stopping to “count them up.” This course expands playing from middle C and C positions to other keys. It teaches an expanded understanding of the keyboard, with two-octave scales and arpeggios. We will study I IV V7 chords, lead sheets, and simple transpositions.
