  • HISTORY

    Since its founding by six visionary leaders in 1975, the National Society of Black Engineers, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, has grown to more than 32,000 members globally, blossoming into a leading force in the lives of technical professionals and students on college campuses worldwide. The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. In 1989, a NSBE alumni chapter in the Washington, DC metropolitan area was established and officially chartered in 1990 with 20 members. The National Society of Black Engineers Washington DC Metropolitan Area Professional Chapter (NSBE DC) has been active in the region for 35 years with a strong indelible legacy of excellence and dedication to our members and the local community.
  • OBJECTIVE

    The National Society of Black Engineers Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area Professional Chapter Future Innovators Scholarship Award was established as a means of recognizing and rewarding students who have demonstrated academic excellence as well as outstanding service within their communities. This is a merit-based scholarship awarded to students planning to pursue degrees in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. $1,000 scholarship awards will be presented to students who NSBE DC feels will demonstrate the greatest promise as future African-American technical professionals. The candidates that have been selected to receive the NSBE DC Future Innovators Scholarship Award will receive an invitation to the NSBE DC Annual Scholarship Reception in May/June 2026 to receive formal recognition of their accomplishment. Recipients will have the option of inviting family and friends to this occasion.The NSBE DC scholarship is valid only for the recipient’s first year in college. It is not renewable for subsequent years.
  • APPLICATION DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 2026 @ 11:59 PM

  • ELIGIBILITY

    Applicants must be African-American high school seniors residing in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area (limited to Montgomery, Prince George’s, Howard, Charles, Anne Arundel, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties in Maryland; Alexandria City, Arlington, Prince William, Loudoun, Fairfax, and Stafford counties in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC). At the time of application, scholarship applicants must have applied for admission to an accredited college or university in a degree program in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or an applied science.
  • APPLICATION PROCESS

    The NSBE DC Future Innovators Scholarship Application is due by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.  The application should be submitted electronically via the online application on the next page. Supplemental information, which includes letters of recommendation and high school transcripts can be uploaded via this scholarship application or emailed.  For email submissions, the supplemental information should be saved in one of the following formats (pdf, docx, or jpg;however, pdf is preferred) and emailed to scholarships@nsbedc.org. Please include the student’s last name and item (e.g., letter of recommendation or transcript) in the subject. Submissions must be sent by 11:59 pm on April 15, 2026.  
  • SCHOLARSHIP CONDITIONS

    The NSBE DC Future Innovators Scholarship may be used to cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, room and board, and other college-related expenses. Funds will be disbursed in the fall of 2026.  Scholarship recipients must submit an official proof of registration from their college or university in order to receive the award monies.
