Your Confirmation Name

Students may choose a Confirmation name or may use their Baptismal name. If you would like a Confirmation Name that is different from your Baptismal name, please read the information below to help you make your choice.  

Names have always been an important part of our faith. God Himself said, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name: you are mine” (Isaiah 43:1). A new name has often signified a drawing closer to God, as with Abram becoming Abraham (Genesis 17:5), Jacob becoming Israel (Genesis 35:10), and Simon becoming Peter (John 1:42). It has never been uncommon for priests and religious to take a new name upon entering the religious life, and Popes take a new name as well—the choice of Francis by our current Holy Father sent a clear message as to the kind of Pope he would be.

Choosing a Confirmation name is an opportunity to choose a name that has special meaning to you, a name that will help you in your journey of faith. By choosing a saint’s name, you’re asking him or her to pray for you in a special way. Having a special connection to someone in Heaven is a big deal!

The most important part of choosing a Confirmation name is to pray, asking the Holy Spirit to guide your choice. Whether you choose to stick with your given name, or to choose a new name, enjoy discovering the ways in which the name helps bring you closer to God.

Choosing Your Sponsor 

You do not journey alone within the Christian community. Along the way, you make ties with certain members who demonstrate in their lives what it means to be a Catholic. During this year of maturing as a Catholic Christian, you should have a “friend for the journey”, a person who knows you and is willing to listen to your concerns and questions about your faith or about the Church.

At Confirmation, that friend, your sponsor, will stand up for you before the community, present you to the bishop by name, and witness the anointing with blessed oil. A godparent might be a good choice for this role since your Confirmation will complete your Baptism. Whomever you choose should be a practicing, confirmed Catholic and a role model whose living faith you admire. Your parent cannot be your sponsor.

If the sponsor cannot be present at the Confirmation ceremony they can still be a sponsor, a proxy can stand in for the ceremony. The proxy can be anyone including a parent. Please record the sponsor NOT the proxy on this form. We do not need to know or record who the proxy is.

Please provide us with the name of your sponsor, the year they were confirmed and why you chose them for your sponsor.

Your Robe Height

All Confirmation students will wear robes at the ceremony. The robe rental cost is included in your Confirmation fee. In order for us to order a robe that fits, please provide your/your child's height.
