     The 2026 judge is Mary Kuper.

    An exhibition of the judge's work will be displayed at Jersey Arts Centre between Monday 14 September and Saturday 10 October 2026.

     

    This year's competition will combine work from both the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

     

    PRIZES:

    There will be 7 prizes totalling £2,000. These will be awarded to artists who in the opinion of the Judge have produced the most original work of art.

    1st prize: £1,000

    The Jock Russell Award for 12-18 years prize: £500

    5 Highly Commended prizes of: £100

     

    Selected and winning works will be Exhibited:

    JERSEY: Jersey Arts Centre - Tuesday 13 October to Saturday 7 November

    GUERNSEY: George Crossan Gallery - Monday 16 November to Saturday 21 November

      

    Deadline for online entries is: 5pm Tuesday 8 September.

  • COMPETITION RULES

  • Please read the rules of the competition before proceeding:

    • All entries are to be submitted online by 5pm Tuesday 8 September.

    • Entrants must be a resident of the Bailiwick of Jersey or Guensey.

    • Entrants must be 12 years or over.

    • Up to 2 works can be entered.

    • Work must not exceed 1 square metre (including frame where applicable).

    • Work must not protrude more than 20cm from the wall.

    • School/Student Entries: Schools submitting students’ work should be aware that some examination boards restrict the display of “live” coursework (i.e. work that is being assessed or has not yet been formally submitted) until the relevant examination session has concluded. Schools are therefore strongly advised to check their respective examination board’s regulations before entering any work into the competition.

    Students entering independently must ensure that they submit only non-live examination work and that they fully understand and comply with their examination board’s requirements.

    • Guernsey and Sark Artists: If selected, artists are responsible for delivering their artwork to Guernsey Arts at Candie Museum, St Peter Port by Monday 14 September. Artists are responsible for packaging their own artwork ready for delivery to Jersey. Artwork not appropriately packed may be refused submission.

    • Alderney Artists: If selected, artists are responsible for delivering their artwork to Alderney Art Club at Pre Studio on Saturday 12 September between 2pm and 4pm. Artists are responsible for packaging their own artwork ready for delivery to Jersey. Artwork not appropriately packed may be refused submission.

    • Jersey Artists: If selected, you must deliver your work to Jersey Arts Centre Box Office from 14 to 18 September, between 1pm and 6pm. Work not recieved by this date may not be exhibited and will not be considered for any prizes.

    • The work must be original wall-mounted work and can include: paintings, drawings, original prints and textiles as well as mixed media work. Please note: photographs are not eligible for the competition.

    • Work must be suitable to exhibit, i.e. mounted or framed, not just on paper. Entrants should note that the presentation, and in particular the quality of the framing work, may be taken into account in the judging of this competition.

    • Any glazed work must be securely framed. Works which, in the opinion of the organisers, are not submitted in a suitable condition may be disqualified.

    • Work should be ready to hang with wire or mirrorplates.

    • Entry fee is £5 per person (£1 for students) and a single payment covers up to 2 works of art.

    • Work is summitted at the owner's risk and entrants are responsible for insuring their work. Whilst all reasonable measures will be taken to ensure that the handling, storage and display of the work is conducted with care, the organisers, sponsors, and their agents, will under no circumstances be liable for loss or damage to any work, however caused.

    • 1st Prize and Jock Russell Award winning artwork is retained and owned by Fox.

    • The organisers reserve the right to refuse entry or disqualify work, if in their opinion, it contravenes the rules of the competition; in such circumstances the handling fee will not be refunded.

  • JUDGING

    The judging will take place on Thursday 10 September and will be carried out by Mary Kuper. The originality of the work will be taken into account and work which is, in the view of the judge, derivative may suffer in consequence. They will make a selection of work to be shown in the exhibition, from the images submitted. Selected artists will be notified by 11 September. If selected, please refer to competiton rules for delivery instructions.

    On Saturday 19 September, when selected artwork has been delivered to Jersey Arts Centre, the judge will select the 2 winning works and 5 highly commended works in person. The decision of the judge is final and binding.

    SALE OF WORKS (IF SELECTED)

    Work for sale will be subject to a commission of 20%. All sales will be dealt with through Jersey Arts Centre.

    COLLECTION OF WORKS (IF SELECTED)

    Any unsold work must be collected from:

    Jersey: Jersey Arts Centre on Wednesday 25 November between 1pm and 6pm

    Guernsey and Sark: Guernsey Arts on Tuesday 24 November between 9am and 5pm

    Alderney: Pre Studio on Tuesday 1 December between 9am and 5pm

    PRESS PHOTOGRAPHS

    Work exhibited may be photographed and published free of charge in any publication promoting the competition.

    COPYRIGHT

    The organisers and JJ Fox reserve the right to publish, without fee, part or all of the entry as an example of the quality of the entries. Although the prize-winning entries become the property of JJ Fox International Ltd, this does not prevent the artist reproducing their work independently, provided JJ Fox International Limited are consulted and their consent obtained.

    CONFIDENTIALITY

    Entrants who do not wish their names and contact details to be released to interested parties should notify the organiser in writing at the time of applying.

    DATA PROTECTION

    Information is collected in accordance with Data Protection (Jersey) Law 2018 and Data Protection (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Law 2017. It will be used for the following purposes:

    a) to contact exhibitors and prize winners to confirm selection, collection dates/times and exhibition dates and information.

    b) to administer the judging process.

    c) to co-ordinate exhibition insurance.

    d) to communicate to the press, and through social media the names of the selected artists and the titles of their work.

    Jersey Arts Centre, JJ Fox and Guernsey Arts does not share personal information with any other parties.
