What are your main styles of tattooing?
*
Traditional (American Traditional / Old School): bold black outlines, limited colours (often red/green/yellow), classic motifs (roses, daggers, panthers, anchors).
Neo-Traditional: like traditional but more detail, richer colour palettes, more depth and stylised realism.
Japanese (Irezumi): big, flowing compositions (dragons, koi, waves, peonies), strong linework, classic background elements.
Blackwork: heavy use of solid black, from simple shapes to large bold panels.
Dotwork: built from dots rather than continuous shading; great for geometric and sacred-symbol style pieces.
Geometric: patterns, symmetry, mandalas, line-based shapes; often overlaps with dotwork.
Fine Line: very thin lines, delicate detail, often minimal shading.
Minimalist / Micro Tattoos: small, simple designs; can overlap with fine line.
Realism (Black & Grey / Colour Realism): portraits, animals, objects with photographic depth and shading.
Illustrative: looks like a drawing/print illustration; flexible style with strong artistic “hand.”
Watercolour: painterly splashes and gradients; often with lighter outlines (or none).
Trash Polka: high-contrast black & red with chaotic graphic elements, text, brush strokes.
Surrealism: dreamlike mashups, distorted realism, weird (in the best way).
Abstract: shapes, brushwork, non-literal art—more about composition than “subject.”
Sketch / Pencil style: looks like sketchbook lines, crosshatching, loose strokes.
Linework: emphasis on clean lines; can be ornamental, illustrative, or geometric.
Ornamental: decorative patterns (often inspired by jewellery, lace, filigree); popular on sternum, neck, hands.
Mandala: circular ornamental geometry (technically a subset of geometric/ornamental).
Tribal (Polynesian / Māori / Samoan etc.): culturally rooted patterning and motifs (best done with respect and correct references).
Celtic / Knotwork: interwoven knots, crosses, and traditional pattern forms.
Chicano: fine black & grey, smooth shading, script, religious/iconic imagery, lowriders, portraiture.
Script / Lettering: names, quotes, single words, calligraphy styles.
Gothic / Blackletter lettering: ornate, medieval-style script (often used in Chicano and street styles too).
Biomechanical / Bio-organic: “under the skin” machine parts or organic textures.
Horror / Dark art: macabre imagery, creepy realism, monsters, occult themes.
Cartoon / Anime / Pop culture: stylised characters; can be bold traditional or full colour.
New School: exaggerated proportions, bright colours, graffiti/comic vibes.
Sticker / Patchwork: lots of smaller pieces placed like a “collection,” often mixed styles.
Ignorant style: intentionally rough, naïve, “bad-on-purpose” (it’s a whole thing).
Cyber Sigilism: modern abstract sigil-like black designs, often sharp/flowing and high-contrast.
Single-needle: super fine, soft detail with minimal trauma (often overlaps with fine line).
Engraving / Etching: mimics old printmaking with line shading and crosshatching.
Traditional European: similar to American trad but with regional flavour and motifs.
