Please note:  If any student is 7 years old or younger the San Diego Suzuki Institute requires an adult be present to escort the student to classes.  If the adult is someone other than the student's legal parent/guardian, please fill out the "Designated Chaperone Information."

If a student is age 8 or older and a parent/guardian cannot attend with their student, we require the student signs up for an extra elective class. A schedule without an elective will go from either 9-3 or 10-4. The elective extends the program by one hour and makes the schedule go from 9-4. This requirement is to ensure that every student is under adult supervision (in the form of a class teacher) at all times. If the child has adult supervision, the elective is entirely optional. One adult can be the designated adult for multiple children.

  • Lunch and Observing Kosher

The San Diego Suzuki Institute is held at Congregation Beth Am.  Beth Am is a Jewish synagogue that keeps kosher and asks that all attendees follow these same guidelines.

Meat and dairy must be separated.  In an effort to keep this as simple as possible, SDSI has one simple lunch rule:

All food that is brought from home MUST be vegetarian.

A catered kosher lunch with meat that is prepared by a kosher chef may be optionally purchased.  The menu for the week along with extra lunch card purchases can be found here.

If neither of these options work for your family, there are a number of off-site lunch options that are within easy driving distance.

  • Daily Schedule and Adult Supervision

SDSI students will receive 4 hours of classroom instruction a day either starting at 9am and ending at 3pm or starting at 10am and ending at 4pm. Please be prepared for either schedule option, depending on how the final schedule lines up. Students signed up for an elective will attend 9am to 4pm.

Students can attend classes by themselves when they are 8 years old or older. Be advised that the students change classes "college style," meaning they move from room to room. So while there will be adults supervising the hallway, it might be a good idea to walk your child through their first day and/or find a buddy.

PLEASE NOTE: If a parent/guardian cannot attend with their student, we require the student signs up for an extra elective class. A schedule without an elective will go from either 9-3 or 10-4. The elective extends the program by one hour and makes the schedule go from 9-4.
