Commitment to Biblical Standards and Church Values
  • As a leader, I recognize that I am stepping in to a place of authority and as such I am committing to the biblical standard of leadership and accountability. Additionally, I am agreeing to support Woodlake’s leadership, vision, and standards in regards to all of the following issues.

    I UNDERSTAND THIS INCLUDES:
In consideration of 1 Thessalonians 5:22, I will abstain from all appearances of evil.

No illicit sexual activity or moral impurity, including adultery, pornography, romantic involvement with members of the same sex, sexual involvement outside of marriage, or improper physical contact with children. We hold to the biblical standard of relationships and sexual conduct found in Matthew 19:3-6, Ephesians 5:3, and 1 Corinthians 7:2.

I will abstain from using recreational drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products.
    - Romans 12:1, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, and Ephesians 5:18

I will subscribe to the doctrinal beliefs of Woodlake Church, and I will not communicate to my team or otherwise anything that contradicts the Woodlake doctrinal statement.
    - 1 Corinthians 1:10 and Amos 3:3.

I will refrain from participation in gossip, murmuring, and complaining about church leaders, policies and staff. I will address my concerns to the appropriate leadership in a civil and Christ-like manner. I will always “vent up” my concerns to those in leadership over me and will never vent concerns, complaints or issues down to those I lead.
    - Matthew 18, 1 Corinthians 1:10 and 2 Corinthians 12:20.

Should I find it impossible to resolve my grievance, I will resign my position in a manner considerate of the on-going program - 1 Thessalonians 5:12.
I will maintain a healthy connection with my Leader and be open-handed with them as they serve to resource, support, and inspect the team/group I lead. - Hebrews 13:17.

In accordance with Woodlake’s worship/grow/serve model, I will attend adult services regularly in addition to serving as a volunteer. I will also participate in a Group, Class, Study, or attend on Wednesdays where I can grow in my relationship with God and others - Hebrews 10:25.

As a leader at Woodlake, I recognize that my life reflects my leadership and Woodlake Church. I will uphold the above standards throughout my life and on social media.

  • Our Stance on Alcohol and Tobacco Products

Romans 14:20–21 (AMP) - You must not, for the sake of food, undo and break down and destroy the work of God! Everything is indeed [ceremonially] clean and pure, but it is wrong for anyone to hurt the conscience of others or to make them fall by what he eats. The right thing is to eat no meat or drink no wine [at all], or [do anything else] if it makes your brother stumble or hurts his conscience or offends or weakens him.

1 Corinthians 8:9–13 (NIV) - Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak. For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols? So this weak brother or sister, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. When you sin against them in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.

We ask all worship team members to abstain from the use of alcohol and tobacco products. This includes not having these products available or visible in the host home for group activities. We also ask leaders not to post pictures of the use of alcohol or tobacco products and not promote/endorse their use (Example - sharing drink preferences or wearing clothing promoting brands).

Remember - The goal is to not cause others to sin or stumble.

I have read the above statements and subscribe to them whole-heartedly.
