My name is Michelle Bowen, and I’m an artist based in New York, USA. If you’re reading this, I hope it means you’re interested in joining this global art and peace movement called, "One Global Sound: A Peace of Silence." The initiative centers on something we rarely pay attention to: ambient room tone—the subtle sound an inside space makes when no one is speaking. It’s the quiet presence that holds a room together, carrying its character, its emotion, and its spirit. By sharing a moment of your home’s silent room tone, you’re offering a small but meaningful piece of your life. Each recording will then become part of a continuously evolving single global sound—one that collectively grows with every submission and stands as a living symbol of peace, connection, and our shared humanity. Participants are encouraged to record their “peace of silence” at home, though any meaningful indoor environment is welcome.
Four (4) simple steps to record your quiet room tone:
- Choose an inside space, close all windows and doors, shut off unecessary items.
- Holding your mobile phone sideways*, open to video mode, point the camera at anything you want in your chosen space. Make sure your microphone is on!
- Press record to capture approximately 90 seconds of audio and video. Remain as still and quiet as possible.
- Upload file below (be patient as it may take a couple of minutes).
