  • Workshop information

  • Music Workshops

There will be three music groups, to give everyone enough space, with the tutors moving between the groups. All melody instruments are welcome, but there will be some emphasis on fiddle technique. We must emphasise that all learning is by ear. You will normally be able to make personal recordings during the workshops and we will be making videos with the tutors playing the course tunes, which will be available after the weekend.

Please answer the questions below to give us a better understanding of you as a player. The standard of playing at Scandimoot is quite high, so there may end up being little difference between the groups.

  • Dance Workshops

No previous experience of Scandinavian dance and no partner is needed, as you will be encouraged to change partner (and role). You do need to have had some dancing experience and be able to learn, by looking, listening and feeling - whichever works best for you. The workshops are progressive and not normally appropriate for anyone to drop in to. If you have them, we recommend you bring smooth soled dance shoes to help with the rotation of the dance. However you may also want to bring some dance shoes with a slightly less slippery sole in order to have options and to give your feet a rest (But please don't worry if you have no alternatives, just bring the shoes you normally wear!).

  • Transport & Accommodation

  • Transport

We will be organising lift shares between Clapham and Austwick (and also to and from Settle on Sunday), for those without transport, and in order to to cut down on parking problems at Austwick.

Please make your choice from the options below to help us estimate the demand.

  • Accommodation

We can offer basic camping (no facilities other than a tap, but 24hr public toilets nearby) in the farmer’s field for tents and small vans (subject to the condition of the ground).  We are unable to offer hard-standing for camper-vans.

You can also book indoor camping at Austwick Parish Hall, 2.5 miles from Clapham, where we hold the daytime dance workshops, there are showers and self-catering facilities. Parking is limited in Austwick but we will be arranging shuttle transport between Clapham and Austwick.

See more information about accommodation options at www.scandimoot.org.uk

  • Indoor camping at Austwick

There are shower & toilet facilities, no bedding is supplied.

Pricing will be £5 per person per night.

Please indicate the nights that you will want a bed-space for.

  • Camping in Clapham

For tents and small vans only (subject to the condition of the ground), basically this is a farmer's field. There is water nearby and it is close to the public toilets. There are washing facilities at Clapham Village Hall, and you are welcome to use the showers at Austwick Parish Hall.

Pricing will be £2.50 per person per night.

Please indicate the nights that you will want a space for.

  • Meals

All meals are vegetarian. We are offering in-house breakfasts at either Clapham or Austwick.  Lunches (improved sandwiches and salads provided by The Old Sawmill café) will be available in Clapham for musicians, or delivered to Austwick for dancers, on Saturday and Sunday.  On Monday we’ll all have in-house Scandimoot Soup and cake together in Clapham.  Friday and Saturday evening meals (main and dessert) are cooked by Lucy, our amazing local caterer.  Please note that we DON’T PROVIDE AN EVENING MEAL on SUNDAY evening but we can suggest local places to eat or you can self-cater in Clapham Village Hall (at lunchtimes or Sunday only) or at Austwick Parish Hall. Many people eat out in Settle on Sunday before the concert at Victoria Hall.
  • PLEASE NOTE:

Lunches will be provided at Austwick Parish Hall for those on the dance course there.

Otherwise lunches will be provided at The Old Sawmill Café in Clapham.
