  • VACP LEECP Re-Certification Requirements

  • I. VACP MEMBERSHIP

    Current membership in the VACP or VACLEA is no longer required for initial certification or re-certification.  However, those who have remained members in good-standing for the duration of their prior three-year certification period will be eligible for the discounted re-certification program fee.

    Those who have allowed their membership to lapse/expire will be charged the standard (non-member) rate for the re-certification program fee.

    You may verify your membership status and/or pay any outstanding dues invoices by logging into your Member Compass.

  • II. LEO CERTIFICATION TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

    This was one of the original re-certification requirements established by Chief DeBoard.  Is this question even necessary?  Presumably if someone is duly employed as a sworn LEO (as attested in the next question), they have kept up their DCJS-required training.

    Or do we want re-cert applicants to submit a copy of their TRACER record to verify?

  • III. EMPLOYMENT AS SWORN VIRGINIA LEO

    The VACP Law Enforcement Executive Certification Program is open only to those actively employed as a sworn law enforcement officer for a Virginia agency with primary law enforcement responsibility at the time of application.

    At this time, we are not able to re-certify if you have moved into a non-sworn position, have taken a job as a sworn LE officer in another state, or you are presently unemployed/retired.

  • IV. VACP/VACLEA CONFERENCES

    The VACP Law Enforcement Executive Certification Program currently requires regular participation in VACP/VACLEA Conferences in order to maintain VACP Law Enforcement Executive Certification.

    • Certified Chief Executive Oficers must have attended on average 1 conference per year, or THREE (3) VACP/VACLEA Conferences in three (3) years.
    • Certified Command Officers must have attended ONE (1) VACP/VACLEA Conference in three (3) years.

    If you want to double-check your conference attendance record with us, you can review your Continuing Education Report in your Member Compass.

    HOWEVER... we have received feedback that this current requirement towards re-certification is prohibitive or potentially unattainable due to scheduling conflicts, training budget limitations, or manpower issues. We are considering an "either/or" alternative to the conference participation requirement that would instead satisfy the demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
