  • Background
    The Reston (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, is a sisterhood of African American women who strive to make positive changes in our community. We are proud to continue our annual scholarship program where multiple scholarships are awarded to qualifying students.  Below are the three scholarship categories:

    a) Reston Links Scholarships awarded to students who have excelled at their local high school and are planning to attend a college/university in the U.S.

    b) Historical Black College or University (HBCU) Scholarships awarded to students who have excelled at their local high school and who will attend an HBCU.

    c) The Marilyn F. Lightfoote, MD, Scholarship assists a minority female high school student who resides in Loudoun County or Fairfax County. The applicant plans to major in a STEM related field at a four-year institution. This scholarship will assist students with postsecondary education expenses and encourage scholarship, leadership, and productive engaged citizenship.

  • Eligibility
    a) Applicant must be a US Citizen.

    b) Applicants for the Reston Links Scholarships and the HBCU Scholarships must be a current student at Herndon High School, South Lakes High School, or Tuscarora High School.

    c) Applicants for the Marilyn F. Madry Lightfoote, MD scholarship must be a female minority student who resides in Fairfax County or Loudoun County and plans to major in a STEM related field.

    d) Applicant cannot be a family member of a person who is a member of The Links, Incorporated.
    {Immediate Family Members—for the purpose of determining whether a conflict of interest exists, immediate family members include the member's spouse, brother or sister (whether by whole or half-blood or were legally adopted), spouse of brother or sister (whether by whole or half-blood or legal adoption), ancestors (parents, grandparents), children (including a legally adopted child), grandchildren, great grandchildren and spouses of children, and great grandchildren (whether by whole or half-blood).
