Community Speed Watch
Community Speed Watch is a police supported initiative that enables trained volunteers to monitor vehicle speeds at approved locations within the parish.
Speed Watch is not about issuing fines or penalties. Its purpose is to:
Raise awareness of vehicle speeds in residential areas
Encourage drivers to slow down and drive more responsibly
Collect data which can be shared with the police to inform future enforcement activity
Vehicles recorded as exceeding the speed limit may receive a warning letter from the police. Persistent or high risk speeding locations may be considered for further enforcement action.
All Speed Watch activity is carried out in line with police guidance and safety procedures, using approved equipment and locations.
Getting Involved as a Volunteer
Community Speed Watch relies on local residents who are willing to give a small amount of time to help improve road safety in their community.
You do not need any specialist knowledge or previous experience. Full guidance and training are provided, and activities are always carried out in groups of three for safety.
Volunteering involves:
Attending a short training session
Taking part in occasional roadside monitoring sessions at agreed locations
Recording vehicle speeds in line with the approved process
Helping to promote safer driving within the parish
Many volunteers find the role rewarding and value being able to make a positive contribution to their local area.
