    About the Show:

    The S. S. American is sailing between New York and England with a comically colorful assemblage of passengers: Reno Sweeney, a popular nightclub singer and former evangelist, her pal Billy Crocker, a lovelorn Wall Street broker who has come aboard to try to win the favor of his beloved Hope Harcourt (who is engaged to another passenger, Sir Evelyn Oakleigh), and a second-rate conman named Moonface Martin, aka “Public Enemy #13”. Song, dance, and farcical antics ensue as Reno and Moonface try to help Billy win the love of his life.

    Audition location: Auditions will be at the Mon River Arts rehearsal studio, 206 Plum Street, Elizabeth, PA 15037

    Audition dates: Mon Feb 9th, 6:30pm-10pm, Tue Feb 10th, 6:30pm-10pm

    Callback date: Thursday Feb 12th, 6:30pm-10pm

    Performance location and dates: May 8-9, 15-17, 2026. Fri-Sat at 7:30pm, Sunday at 2pm. No show Mother's Day. Grand Theatre, 207 S 2nd Ave, Elizabeth, PA 15037

    Audition Requirements:

    Prepare one 32 bar uptempo cut of a musical theater song in the style of the show. Please no selections from the show. Be prepared to dance a short combination (no tap until callbacks). If there is time, be prepared to read sides from the script. An accompanist will be provided. 

    Auditions are open to non union performers age 18 and older. Performers of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities and expressions, and performers living with disabilities are encouraged to audition. ALL ROLES ARE AVAILABLE. Understudy and Swing roles may be offered.

    Auditions will run in groups of two every 10 minutes. Please choose a slot from the available times. If the selection is active, there is room for you in that time slot. If it is grayed out and not selectable, the time slot is full. Please choose another time. Plan to arrive 5-10 minutes before your chosen date/time and check in at the table.

    Please upload a resume and headshot when signing up. If you do not upload one please bring one with you to auditions.

    In-person auditions are preferred, but video submissions will be accepted. If you need to submit a video audition, email to monriverarts@gmail.com no later than 10pm Feb 9th. There will be limited availability for walk ins.

    Rehearsals: Rehearsals are set to begin Mon March 2nd. Rehearsals will be Saturdays 11am-1pm and Monday through Thursday evenings 7pm-10pm. You will not be called to every rehearsal. Please attempt to collect and provide all of your conflicts before auditioning.  
      
    All rehearsals will be in Elizabeth at the Learning Center, MRA Studio, or the Grand Theatre.

    Anything Goes centers on the love triangle of Billy Crocker and Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. Aiding Billy is his friend, the glamorous Reno Sweeney, and a second-rate gangster known as "Public Enemy #13," Moonface Martin and his accomplice, Bonnie. 

    Reno Sweeney— nightclub singer, former evangelist (Range: F3-F5, opt. G5)

    Billy Crocker— Whitney’s “general manager,” in love with Hope (Range: Bb2-F4)

    Moonface Martin— A hapless gangster, Public Enemy No. 13 (Range: A#2-E4)

    Bonnie— wisecracking moll, traveling with Moon (Range: C#4-Gb5)

    Hope Harcourt— engaged to Sir Evelyn (Range: Bb3-F5)

    Sir Evelyn Oakleigh— English gentleman (Range: B2-F4, opt. G4)

    Mrs. Wadsworth T. Harcourt— mother of Hope; society matron (Range: D4-D5)

    Elisha J. Whitney— Wall Street executive; lush
