    Sashiko Basics

  • This is an introduction to sashiko stitching.

Class will begin with a brief history to learn about the heart of sashiko and a

demonstration of the Japanese hand sewing technique, unshin. Students will select a pattern to transfer onto cloth using stencils.

Students will then sashiko stitch a cotton square with white cotton thread. If interested, students can also use sashiko patterns and tracing paper to transfer onto the square.
