  • Gallery Submission Guidelines

    The gallery and exhibition team reserve the right to reject any submissions for any reason based on the criteria below. The gallery and exhibition team also reserve the right to display artworks in the manner and location best suited for the gallery and current exhibit. It is the artist’s responsibility to understand and adhere to all submission guidelines.

    While the gallery will use the utmost care in handling items left in storage, they are not liable for any losses or damages that occur during storage.

    Hanging and Display

    • All pieces must be ready to hang with a hanging wire (no sawtooth hangers)
    • If a piece does not meet proper hanging requirements, the gallery reserves the right to not hang the piece

    • All frames and glass must be clean and display-ready

    • Hanging wire should not be visible from the front of the piece

    • Hanging wire should hang no less than three inches from the top of the piece

    • All submitted pieces must be identified on the back with:

    • Title
    • Artist’s name
    • Medium
    • Price

    • Artworks requiring a pedestal or alternate wall hanging method must be discussed with gallery staff in advance to ensure accommodations

    • Any wrapped canvas smaller than 1 inch deep must be framed

    • Any exposed edges on wrapped canvas must be finished

    • Photographs and works on paper must be framed

    • Artworks must be printed on archival, photo-grade paper or by a professional photo print service
    • Printed artworks must have good color and detail reproduction
    • Works on paper should use fine art paper; plain copy paper will not be accepted

    • All work submitted must be completely dry and finished

    • It is highly discouraged to remove a piece once it is hung in the show

    • If an artist removes their piece from the show, it may not be eligible for resubmission into the current show at the gallery’s discretion

    • If an artist sells a piece during an exhibition, they may refill the empty space with another piece
    • If the artist chooses not to replace the piece, another artist’s work may be hung in its place

    Submissions

    • All submissions must be original artworks

    • Artists must complete an intent to show and label form by the appropriate date

    • Submissions will not be accepted without the proper forms

    • Any artworks previously shown at the Sheboygan Visual Artists Gallery within the last year will not be accepted

    • Artworks created solely using AI will not be accepted

    • Any artworks that use AI in any part of the creation process MUST be disclosed in the label submission

    • AI-assisted artworks must be heavily modified from the original AI image

    • Subject matter must be appropriate for all audiences

    • Subject matter is reviewed and approved at the discretion of the gallery and board

    • Artworks containing copyrighted content will not be accepted

    Drop Off and Pick Up

    • It is the artist’s responsibility to drop off and pick up artworks on the appropriate dates

    • Any artworks not picked up on the designated dates will be placed in gallery storage
    • The gallery is not liable for any losses or damages that occur during storage

    • The gallery reserves the right to reject artworks not dropped off on the appropriate date, regardless of intent/label submission status, unless prior arrangements have been made
