  • Parent/Cast Information

  • I realize that myself or my child being chosen for the cast, I will be responsible to make sure I/he/she attends every rehearsal and performance for which I/he/she is scheduled. Any added rehearsal or show conflicts could lead to student being removed from songs/scenes or from the show itself.

In case of illness, I will notify SOPA leadership in advance (info@shineonperformingarts.org or 512-800-1906). In order to ensure the quality of rehearsals and the production, I understand that unexcused absences may result in dismissal from the show. I understand that students who audition are NOT eligible for a tuition refund. I agree that my child will not attend if ill or within 24 hours of having a fever. This is 24 hours fever free without fever reducing medication.

I understand that I will be charged a Production Fee for each student who is cast in a production.

I understand that I am responsible for volunteering a minimum of 20 hours on one of the Production Teams or I must buy out my volunteer hours for a total of $200. Minimum of 20 Parent/Volunteer hours per cast or 30 hour if more than one child. Buy out option is available. Review Volunteer Incentive Program section for more information. https://form.jotform.com/252166279225056

All cast members over the age of 17 must fill out the volunteer form. https://form.jotform.com/252166279225056

I am also responsible for personal items (i.e., undergarments, shoes, tights, make-up, hair products, etc).

I understand that I will be asked to attend show meetings.

I understand that Cast and Crew from all shows are asked to sell at least 15 tickets for the show they are cast in.

I understand that I must secure a monthly donor, ad sponsorship in the program or student shout out with photo. Equivalent of $250 per cast member.

I understand that all cast, staff and vounteers over age 17 must consent to a background check in order to participate with or volunteer on teams that involve underage students.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREPARE:

    1. Choose a SONG to perform.
Please choose a verse and a chorus (approx 1 min in total length) that showcases your voice and personality. Select a song from a contemporary musical when possible. NOT from the show you are auditioning for. Please NO pop/rock songs. The song should have a backing track. Please NO A CAPELLA (no music) and no tracks with lead vocals. We want to hear YOU shine! If you have questions or need assitance, please email info@shineonperformingarts.org. Many backing tracks can be found on youtube under "karaoke" or "instrumental accomaniment". Upbeat songs are recommended.

    2. Learn to SLATE!
"Hello, my name is______. I am _____ years old and I will be singing,_____________ from the musical,__________________ and my top 3 roles are...

    3. PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!
When practicing, always take a big, deep, grounding breath before you begin. If you forget, don't fret! Just keep going! Be bold! At the end of your audition, be sure to say, "thank you"

    4. Wear comfortable, but nice clothing. You want to present your best self for an audition. Pajama or sweat pants, hoodies, very short skirts, camisoles, etc are not a great choice. Be sure to bring your dance shoes and wear clothing you can dance freely in.

  • What to Expect from Auditions:

Please see the AUDITION pages on the website for the most accurate and up to date information.

The artistic team will watch the auditions, and make the casting decisions. No parents are involved in casting decisions (including parents who are on staff). If the Artistic Team personally instructs students or has personal relationships with the students, they will not weigh in on casting until all other Artistic Team members have spoken about the student first.

SOPA's policy is that we do not give class refunds after a student auditions – our primary goal at SOPA Austin is to develop skills in all aspects of theater arts.

SOPA audition philosophy: "There is a role for every ONE! You just have to find your place to SHINE!”.

    Callbacks:
During callbacks, students may be asked to read for the directors, and may sing songs from the show.

The cast list will be published by Tuesday, March 31st, 2026 for this Production.

Parents, please help your student process the casting decisions – every student experiences joys and disappointments in theater. This is an opportunity to grow!
There is so much that goes in to casting a show. The artistic team takes many things into account. Thank you for trusting us in this process.
