    The Washington, DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance, Inc. (DCHBCUAA) is a non-profit community-based organization that consists of Historically Black Colleges & Universities’ Alumni chapters in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. We collaborate mainly to strengthen the community through our impactful programs and we exist to provide support to underserved students interested in attending HBCUs. The mission of the DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance is to serve as an advocate for HBCU Alumni Associations by supporting the mission of HBCUs through scholarship fundraising, alumni reclamation and student recruitment in addition to aligning with the National HBCU Alumni Alliances by supporting and participating in programs that promote higher education, encourage healthy living, and fighting hunger.

    The DCHBCUAA is at the forefront of a growing movement to raise awareness, provide resources and offer promising programs that are aimed at supporting at-risk individuals and the communities where they live. Our work is never done alone. We partner with several organizations working toward a common goal. We believe, there is strength in numbers, and that’s why we leverage relationships and collaborate with like-minded organizations because we know it is one of the most powerful and productive investments we can make.

    The McDonald’s Capital Business Unit is the 50 local McDonald's owners and operators of the Capital Business Unit that represent the 468 McDonald's restaurants located in the greater Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Eastern Shore areas. This group of owners and operators are committed to the communities that they serve, the people they employ, and providing food that's made with quality ingredients.     Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the McDonald's scholarship. Specifically, an applicant:

    • Must attend/plan to attend an HBCU in the DC metro, greater Baltimore, or VA/MD Eastern Shore areas (University of the District of Columbia, Howard University, Bowie State University, Coppin State University, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, or  Morgan State University) in Fall 2026 or be a permanent resident of the DC metro, greater Baltimore, or VA/MD Eastern Shore areas and attend an HBCU;
    • Must be an entering freshman or returning undergraduate student;
    • Must have exemplary leadership in school and/or community; 
    • Must certify that this application was completed without the use of artificial intelligence tools; every idea, sentence, and submission must reflect your  original work and personal effort;
    • complete the application below; and
    • agree to create a video about how McDonald's has impacted your life should you win one of the eight (8) $1,000 scholarship awards. 

    *Application deadline is Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 11:59pm ET. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered. Please direct all questions to scholarships@dchbcu.org.

    Eight (8) scholarships 0f $1,000 each will be awarded, and recipients will be publicly recognized on June 27, 2026 at the HBCU 5K Run/Walk and Community Day. Awardees will be notified via email by June 1, 2026. Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the respective universities in Fall 2026.

    • Letters of Recommendation 
    • Please provide two letters of recommendation from someone who can speak knowledgably about you. The letter can be from a teacher, pastor, guidance counselor, community service representative, etc.   The letter should be no more than one page.  The letter of recommendation must include the recommenders name, preferred email, preferred phone number and occupation.

      NOTE: The recommendation cannot be from a family member, or someone related to you.
