  • About: The Washington, DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance, Inc. (DCHBCUAA) is a non-profit community-based organization that consists of Historically Black Colleges & Universities’ Alumni chapters in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. We collaborate mainly to strengthen the community through our impactful programs and we exist to provide support to underserved students interested in attending HBCUs. The mission of the DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance is to serve as an advocate for HBCU Alumni Associations by supporting the mission of HBCUs through scholarship fundraising, alumni reclamation and student recruitment in addition to aligning with the National HBCU Alumni Alliances by supporting and participating in programs that promote higher education, encourage healthy living, and fighting hunger.

    The DCHBCUAA is at the forefront of a growing movement to raise awareness, provide resources and offer promising programs that are aimed at supporting at-risk individuals and the communities where they live. Our work is never done alone. We partner with several organizations working toward a common goal. We believe, there is strength in numbers, and that’s why we leverage relationships and collaborate with like-minded organizations because we know it is one of the most powerful and productive investments we can make.

    Qualifications: Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the DCHBCUAA scholarship. We will award ten (10) scholarship awards at $1,000 each. 

    • must attend/plan to attend an HBCU;
    • must be a resident within a 50 mile radius of the Washington, DC metro area; 
    • must be an entering freshman or returning undergraduate student;
    • must have exemplary leadership in school and/or community; and
    • must reside in/be a permanent resident of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area
    • complete the application below; and
    • upload a 2-3 minute video clip addressing both of the following:
      • why you will choose to attend an HBCU
      • why you choose to major in _______ or what excites you about majoring in _______ (Please make sure your video is a video file and not an audio only file. You should double check that your file is a video file and not a picture or audio file before submitting the file.)     *Application deadline is Saturday, May 20, 2026 at 11:59pm. Application packages submitted after this date will not be considered. Award recipients will be notified via email by Monday, June 13, 2026.
