Please note that all members are required to participate in Rookie Training, Tower Duties, Track & Equipment Maintenance, Race Directing and Race Flagging throughout the race season.
ROOKIE/RACE DIRECTOR
Help teach all the fundamentals of racing and the club rules to new handlers and drivers. Rookie school starts 5 weeks before the start of the race season and you must be available at that time.
Assist in the control of the races and keep the race night moving along in a timely manner. Assist the flagger in lineups after a yellow. The Race Director should be knowledgeable with the USAC racing rules.
**Rookie (new) members may not participate in this committee**
PIT STEWARD/TOWER/SIGNINS
Responsible for the lineup of all cars before the race in the hot chute and check all safety equipment to make sure everything is race ready. Be available for the entire race night.
Assist in preparing the lineups for all of the heats and features and scoring throughout the night. You must be available before racing begins to assist the Head Tower Person with these tasks. Sign in and register all drivers and cars one (1) hour before racing. Be responsible for the startup money, collection of money from the drivers and settling of the money box before giving it to the Treasurer for deposit.
SAFETY/TECH/SCALES
Help perform car inspections and safety equipment inspections at the start of the season, periodically throughout the year and when visiting members attend races.
Assist in inspecting motors and other tech related items each race night. Weigh cars after each race and stay late when needed for tech inspections. Close the tech shed at the end of the race evening.
TRACK/EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE
Help in weekly track preparations and day of race prep. This may include Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings before Sunday races. Oversee all work/track details. Establish that the track’s equipment, fire extinguishers, scales, tech equipment, machinery, lights, PA system, radio, headsets and hand-held radio sets, irrigation system, timeclock, etc. are in working and safe condition at the start of and throughout the race season.
FLAGGING
Be responsible for flagging on race night. Must know flags and basic race knowledge. Set up lights around the track, cones and fire extinguishers.
TROPHIES
Assist in the ordering and distribution of all trophies on race night. You must be able to stay until the end of race night.
BANQUET/FUNDRAISERS/SPECIAL EVENTS
Responsible for finding a hall, taking care of details for the banquet, decorating the hall, collecting the money, and helping with gifts for the banquet. Contact various companies, businesses, and NASCAR teams for donations. Also, assist in the collection and setup of these items at the banquet.
Responsible for coordination of fundraiser events throughout the race season, distribution of the information and product to all club members and the collection of all money and accountability to the Treasurer. Sell 50/50 raffle tickets at all SJQMA club events.
Assist in the set up and presentation of special events held during the race season (fun nights, personality nights, decorating, organizing the event, etc.) In addition to regular race sponsors, this Committee will make contact with local businesses, television programming, magazines, newspaper, etc. in an effort to promote the sport of quarter midget racing and SJQMA and help to fund the club for future events, such as Motorsports, Promo Day, Clash in the Pines and other events.
YEARBOOK
Responsible for designing the yearbook, contacting a photographer, working with the yearbook printer, collecting yearbook profiles and photos for the yearbook.
