Old-time Music & Dance Camp is where students ages 12 to 18 will learn to play old-time fiddle tunes that were meant for dance. They will learn old-time community-style square dances, jig dancing and calling. There is at least one private lesson per day on their instrument of choice. We have instruction for fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, and mountain dulcimer.
The days start at 9:00 am. Students will be scheduled for an individual lesson and will choose which group lessons that most appeal to them once they arrive at camp. Lunch is provided at 12:00. Pick-up will be at 5:30 pm. We will meet on the square at 7:00 pm to watch a band performance, and then 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm for a community square dance! Parents are responsible for students after 5:30 pm and for providing dinner.
Parents are welcome: all day and are welcome to participate in the evening square dance.
Passing it on: This philosophy is a core value of OMMA. As students learn, we encourage them to pass on what they know and be an encouragement to others. Many of our experienced students are very capable teachers. Volunteer instructors can make their time available for students who want additional training.
Cost of Old-time camp: $300, includes t-shirt, lunch, lessons, & snacks. No lodging.
