  • Blooming Fest: Chalk the Walk

  • The City of West Chicago is excited to host its first-ever Chalk the Walk event as part of Blooming Fest, celebrating the festival’s 25th anniversary on Saturday, May 16. This chalk art event is free and open to the public, and there is no fee to participate as an artist. Spots are limited. In addition to the artists’ area, a community corner will be open for the public to engage in a vibrant, flower-themed chalk art experience.

    Date of Festival: Saturday, May 16
    Time: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
    Location: Downtown West Chicago
    Artist Space: Approximately 8 ft x 8 ft section of pavement per artist
    Materials: Each artist will be provided with a set of high-quality professional chalk pastels 

    Theme: Flowers, pollinators, and the natural beauty of spring

    People’s Choice Award – $250
    (Voted on by event attendees)


    Chalk the Walk is a unique opportunity to showcase your creativity, celebrate spring, and be part of a milestone year for Blooming Fest. Artists of all styles are encouraged to apply. Application does not mean acceptance into the event, you will receive an email.

  • Artist agrees to the following: 

    • The art created must be suitable for public and family viewing and must follow the theme: flowers, pollinators, and the natural beauty of spring
    • No words, symbols, or caricatures intended as political statements may appear in the artwork. 
    • No banners, products, samples, or pomotional brochures may be displayed or sold. Artists may distribute business cards.
    • The City of West Chicago reserves the right to refuse, stop or remove any artwork deemed objectionable or not consistent with these rules.
    • Please keep supplies to a minimum and ensure they are well contained within your assigned space.
    • All artwork must remain within the assigned square
    • Bluetooth speakers are not allowed.
    • Artwork must be created using chalk only. Chalk must be in solid form; no liquid or spray chalk is permitted.
    • By participating, artists consent to photography and video recording for use by the City of West Chicago, its affiliates, and representatives
    • All artwork must be completed by a designated time on May 16 for judging. Artists may begin working on their chalk art on a set date the week leading up to Blooming Fest. Additional details will be provided at a later date.
