  • What is Ergonomics Anyways?

The Miriam Webster definition of Ergonomics defines it this way: an applied science concerned with designing and arranging things people use to that the people and things interact most efficiently and safely

In simpler words, work smarter not harder.

    Examples of Ergonomics:

    • Using carts to move doors or other materials from one area to the next.
    • Placing material and tools where they are easy to reach without having to reach too far up or down.

  • Why is ergonomics and safe lifting important?

Ergonomics and safe lifting are crucial in the worplace:

    1. To prevent musculokeletal disorders
    2. Reduce injuries - esspecially back injuries from lifting
    3. Boost well-being
    4. Increase productivity
    5. Improve morale
  • Good posture is good for all of us

    • Good posture is important for spinal health, reducing pain, improving balance, and boosting overall physical and mental well-being by keeping bones aligned, muscles working efficiently, and preventing strain, while enhancing breathing, digestion, confidence, and athletic performance.

    • It distributes gravity evenly, preventing stress on joints and ligaments, and supports the spine’s natural curves, reducing aches, fatigue, and the risk of injury.
  • Good Posture VS Bad Posture

  • Why is resting between tasks and repetitive motions is good for you

    • Resting between heavy lifting or repetitive motions is crucial because it allows muscles to replenish energy, clear metabolic waste, reduce inflammation, and prevent fatigue, which significantly lowers the risk of overuse injuries like tendinitis and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, ultimately maintaining performance and preventing chronic pain.
  • The benefits of stretching

    • Stretching before work boosts energy, reduces fatigue, and lowers injury risk by warming up muscles, improving flexibility, circulation, and posture, which helps with focus and prepares the body for physical demands, preventing strains and stiffness throughout the day. It enhances mental clarity and can relieve stress, leading to better overall performance and well-being.

  • Summary

    1) Ergonomics in the workplace include placing tools and materials in a spot where they are easily reached.

    2) Use carts to move heavy objects such as doors, trim, or other materials.

    3) When lifting, remember to keep your back straight, keep the load close to your body, and do NOT twist at the waist.

    4) Good posture is vital for over all well-being.

    5) Stretching has many great health benefits and can make you feel better throughout the day!

    6) Resting between tasks is an important practice. Wheather you realize it or not, you are losing strength when performing repetivite tasks. Take a break to stretch and practice good posture.
