    For the 2026-2027 season, we are opening applications for both passionate and dedicated Head Coaches and Assistant coaches for our West Central Tigers teams. If you have any questions, please contact wctcoaching@slmha.hockey
  • U11AA and U13AAA head coach applications open February 1 and close March 31, 2026 with short-listed Head Coach interviews conducted thereafter.

    Coaching applications for U13AA, U15AA, U16AA and U18AA teams will open April 1 and close May 31, 2026 with short-listed Head Coach interviews scheduled short thereafter.

  • Non-Parent Head Coach Renumeration

    West Central Tigers provides an honorarium of $8500 for the role of a non-parent head coach for the 2026-2027 season. Incentives for returning non-parent coaches may be offered.

     

    Parent Head Coach Renumeration

    West Central Tigers will cover the cost of the registration fee for one (1) West Central Tigers player for the 2026-2027 season for a named Parent Head Coach.

  • Head Coach Roles & Responsibilities

  • As a Head Coach of the West Central Tigers, you will:

    • Serve as the spokesperson on behalf of the team
    • Create a fun and safe environment to develop both athletes and assistant coaches throughout the season
    • Uphold the expectations of West Central Tigers programs to be competitive, encouraging both on and off-ice development
    • Operate the team with a culture fostering team-first mentality, accountability and displaying good sportsmanship throughout the game and within our communities
    • Be a role model by setting a good example for others. This includes athletes, team officials, on-ice officials, parents, opponents and the extended communities

     

    Reponsibilities:

    • Attend all spring ID skates (as applicable), tryouts and exhibition games/ tournaments and participate in evaluation selections to finalize the team roster
    • Collaborate with the WCT Coaching Liaison to select appropriate assistant coaches for the team
    • Prepare a seasonal plan for age-appropriate development both on and off the ice
    • Prepare an expectation & communication plan for families and processes if non-adherence
    • Lead and plan on-ice practices
    • Lead and plan off-ice activities, including development, team-building and community involvement
    • Coordinate assignments/delegation with assistant coaches, team manager and other team supports
    • Develop game-day plans and lead coaching
    • Oversee or lead age-appropriate video review with players
    • Abide by all governance, including SLMHA policies/procedures and WCT guidelines
    • Communicate with WCT consistently

     

     

     

  • Assistant Coach Roles & Responsibilities

  • As an Assistant Coach of the West Central Tigers, you will:

    • Promote a fun and safe environment to develop young athletes
    • Uphold the expectations of West Central Tigers programs and Head Coach to be competitive, participating in both on and off-ice development
    • Support a positive team and West Central Tigers culture 
    • Be a role model by setting a good example for others
       

    Reponsibilities:

    • If named non-parent prior to the season starting, attend tryouts and exhibition games/tournaments actively providing feedback to the Head Coach during evaluation selections for roster considerations
    • Collaborate with the Head Coach for team meetings as directed 
    • Assist with planning for on-ice practices and lead as assigned
    • Assist with planning for off-ice activities and lead as assigned
    • Participate as a team official in game play
    • Have a supporting role in incorporating and monitoring acceptable team culture that aligns with West Central Tigers expectations
    • Abide by all governance, including SLMHA policies/procedures and WCT guidelines
    • Perform other duties as outlined by the Head Coach and/or team manager
  • Certifications

    All team officials are required to meet certain requirements of SLMHA, Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada to be considered for a position. All rostered team officials MUST meet the requirements no later than November 15 of each year - if requirements are not met, the team and/or coach is ineligible to play or be on the bench.   • Criminal Record | Vulnerable Sector Check

    SLMHA requires that every team official submits a valid Criminal Record with a Vulnerable Sector Check at a minimum of every two years, or at the start of the season if you are new to SLMHA/WCT
