    Free Tree Planting Program Application

    Updated January 2026

  • Application must be submitted by March 13, 2026

  • Guidelines

    • There is a limit of one (1) tree per property owner per year

    • No more than one (1) tree will be planted per 30-feet of front footage. Properties that do not have adequate space, as determined by the Street Department superintendent, are not eligible. It is possible a new tree may not be planted in the same location where a tree was previously removed.

    • The Street Department superintendent determines the tree species available for planting. See the Free Tree Planting Program flyer for the current selection. Please note the species may change due to availability or other factors.

    • Street Department staff will determine the best planting location of the tree based on alignment with existing trees, utility locations, and other structures, such as sidewalks. Planting will be in the street right-of-way only (between the sidewalk and curb).

    • Street Department staff will place a stake in the right-of-way to indicate the location for planting. If you would like the stake moved, please contact the Public Works office at (989) 779-5401, or send an email to publicworks@mt-pleasant.org. Please do not move the stake yourself.

    • If you have an irrigation system in the right-of-way, please make sure it is marked before the tree is planted. The City is not responsible for damage to sprinkler systems that are not marked properly.

    • Residents are responsible for regularly watering the new tree as directed for the first two years after planting. Some trees require more water than others. The Street Department will leave a care brochure on your front door immediately after planting - please watch for this information.
