The City of West Hollywood is pleased to offer the Transgender, Gender Diverse, Intersex Arts Grant (TGI+), a category initiated by the City Council in 2013 intended to support and enhance the presentation of artworks in West Hollywood by artists, artist collectives or groups, and non-profit organizations that have demonstrated a significant commitment to and involvement with the transgender, non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming community. Individual artists, artist collectives or groups, and non-profit organizations with a history of supporting transgender, gender diverse, and/or intersex artists are all welcome to apply.
$30,000 Amount of available funding in this category for 2026
$6,500 Maximum award per grantee per calendar year
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS 3 P.M. JULY 1, 2026.
TRANSGENDER, GENDER DIVERSE, INTERSEX ARTS GRANT ELIGIBILITY
Applicants MUST
- Apply as an individual artist OR be a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit and active nonprofit or provide evidence that they are under a fiscal sponsorship agreement with another nonprofit organization.
- Be able to demonstrate artistic experience in their field, and an understanding of the unique aspects and cultural diversity of the West Hollywood community.
- Demonstrate marketing and outreach strategies targeting West Hollywood residents and constituents.
- Demonstrate how the proposed project assists in the advancement of transgender, gender diverse, and/or intersex artists.
- Describe the impact of the project on the artist and the community.
- Propose an art project that takes place in West Hollywood or in the immediate West Hollywood adjacent area (within 5 blocks of the border).
- Be based in LA County.
- Submit an on-line application by the deadline.
Applicants ARE NOT ELIGIBLE IF YOU
- Are already receiving funding in another grant category in 2027.
- Are already receiving funding from another City Division or Department, are co-sponsored by a City Council office for the same project.
- Are a City of West Hollywood elected or appointed officials, an employee, and their immediate family members.
- Proposed an art project that is a fundraiser, capital campaign, mural, or religious-based programs/event.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- All grant information provided by the applicant becomes public record.
- Any organization that accepts grant funding is subject to audit by the City to ensure that grant funds were used for the project as reported by the organization. Should organizations not adequately account for use of the grant funds, they may be ineligible for any further grant funding from the City.
Applicants are encouraged to propose a cohesive project with a detailed timeline and budget that is realistic in scope and achievable within the grant period.
TGI+ GRANT REVIEW CRITERIA
All applicants will be screened initially by staff to ensure compliance with the eligibility requirements.
Applicants who do not meet these requirements will not be forwarded on to the grants panel for review.
A peer review panel will evaluate and score grant applications using the following criteria:

Propose cohesive project (0-10 points)

Provide clear timeline and detailed budget (0-10 points)

Demonstrate a commitment to the West Hollywood Community (0-10 points)

TGI+ representation in artists and/or audience (0-10 points)
NOTE: Organizations whose business location is within the City of West Hollywood will receive a bonus of 1 point to their total score, per City policy.
NOTE: The Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission reserves the right to reassign a grant application to another grant category for which the application and organization may be more appropriate.
NEXT STEPS AND IMPORTANT DATES
Once you begin your application, you are able to save and continue working on it until the deadline.
A peer panel will review applications in August and submit their scores to the Performing Arts and Cultural Affairs Subcommittee for funding recommendations. Those recommendations will go forward to the Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission in August and ultimately to City Council for approval in September. Applicants who have been approved for funding will be notified in September.
