Bud Sperry Old Cowboy Memorial Scholarship

This application will serve as a submission for the "Bud Sperry Old Cowboy Memorial Scholarship" and "Kelby Indergard Scholarship".

Guidelines:

1. Must be a member of the NDHSRA and in good standing.

2. Applicants must have competed in the NDHSRA State Finals at least once during their high school career. Scholarship applications are due prior to the start of the spring season; however, applicants nearing qualification for the top 24 are encouraged to apply.

3. Must have a 2.00 GPA or better in High School. Please attach a copy of your transcript at the bottom of application.

4. Applicant must be a graduating senior in the current school year.

5. The applicant must plan to enroll in an accredited university, junior college, or trade school in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.

6. Applications are due April 15, 2026, 11:59 P.M. Central Time.

7. All applicants are required to appear before the Scholarship Committee for a personal interview. Interviews will be held on June 11, 2026, beginning at 3:00 P.M. MST., during the State Finals. Location and list of interview candidates will be communicated at a later date.

8. Scholarships will be awarded at the 2026 NDHSRA State Finals in Bowman on Short Go Sunday at noon.

9. In the event of a tie, consideration will be given to whether the applicant competes in multiple disciplines, including both ends of the arena (e.g., boys: rough stock and timed events; girls: barrels, poles, goat tying, and breakaway roping).

10. Scholarship funds will be disbursed after the recipient provides proof of enrollment in an accredited university, junior college, or trade school. Award checks will be issued directly to the recipient.

Essay (20 points): Please state how you feel high school rodeo has added to your life, how it might affect your future, and what have you done to promote high school rodeo in North Dakota. (300 - 500 words)
