    Shelter & Facilities Director

    Position Summary: The Shelter & Facilities Director provides management and leadership to ensure the safe and effective operation of the shelter that serves individuals and families impacted by domestic violence. The Shelter & Facilities Director is a high-level leadership role combining domestic violence expertise, administrative management, and regulatory compliance. The position requires a balance of strategic planning, staff supervision, and patient-centered care, ensuring that programs operate effectively, safely, and in alignment with best practices and legal standards. This includes direct supervision of staff, and monitoring client care. They will also oversee programs and coordinate others to deliver comprehensive care. This position reports directly to the Executive Director. This position is at-will and based on the availability of funding.

     

    Duties/functions: 

    ·       Management, leadership, support and assistance to staff involved with clients within our domestic violence safe house.

    ·       Participate in on-call responsibilities.

    ·        Work with staff to ensure each client’s stay at the shelter is a successful one. 

    ·       Work closely with the case manager(s) on short and long-term goals that include a case plan that includes structured activities that will promote life skills for success and support the client in their progress.

    ·        Monitor program occupancy and schedule staff for work shifts

    ·       Work non-traditional shifts and provide shift coverage at the shelter.

    ·       Organize, plan, multi-task, and complete complex projects

    ·        Evaluate staff performance, approve staff leave, monitor development, and ensure all team members are oriented to program policies and procedures.

    ·       Operate in an atmosphere of understanding sensitivity and trauma-informed approach.

    ·       Effectively communicate with staff and clients.

    ·       Respond and de-escalate crisis safely and therapeutically; and resolve conflicts and competing needs.

    ·       Adhere to policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and other confidential requirements.

    ·       Maintain and update program policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards

    ·       Remain current with advanced knowledge and understanding of best practices, standards, and laws related to domestic violence the problems and needs related to the victims, and the resources available.

    ·       Manage shelter budgets.

    ·       Participate in strategic planning, program development, and quality improvement initiatives

    ·       Monitor grant requirements.

    ·       Analyze, interpret, and report data.

    ·       Use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other software to generate reports and other documents.

    ·       Build community relationships on behalf of the agency.

    ·       Coordinate with maintenance and other staff at the transitional facility.

    ·       Work collaboratively with housing programs, homeless shelters, domestic violence programs, police departments, and other agencies identified as providing services to victims of domestic violence.

    ·       Attend regular safe house staff meetings and regular house meetings for shelter residents.

    ·       Other duties as assigned.

     

    Required qualifications:

    ·       Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in management or related field,

    ·       Minimum of three (3) years working with domestic violence and a record of successfully facilitating change and/or innovation in domestic violence or related field.  Plus, one to two (1-2) years of experience in homelessness, substance abuse, mental health, child abuse or similar field is preferred.

    ·       Three (3) years of supervisory experience involving domestic violence.

    ·       Knowledge of violence dynamics and resources for domestic violence and homelessness; and experience working in an emergency shelter environment.

    ·       Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; and the ability to learn  Agency database software.

    ·       Excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills.

    ·       Ability to build supportive and respectful working relationships with staff and clients.

    ·       Proven ability as an effective and collaborative leader.

    ·       Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

    ·       Must be able to pass the Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.

    ·       Valid California Driver’s License.

    ·       Authorized to work in the United States.

    ·       40 Hour Domestic Violence Certificate

     

    Physical Requirement and Working Environment: The work environment and physical demands are representative of those required by employees to perform the essential duties of this job with or without accommodation.

    ·       8–10-hour workday

    ·       Must be able to lift 50 pounds

    ·       Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling

    ·       Bending, twisting, squatting and reaching
