  • Support Calvert County's Annual Water Quality Blitz!

    Activity Leader: Bruce Fall, Director, Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust

    Join us for an educational hike to visit four local streams to collect water quality samples, engaging attendees in hands-on monitoring and learning about watershed stewardship while supporting Calvert County’s annual Water Quality Blitz.

    Date: Saturday, April 11th 

    Time: There will be a Morning Hike (9-11:30am) and an Afternoon Hike (Noon to 3pm). Participants can sign up for either or both. 

    Morning Hikes (9-11:30am): Two educational hikes to monitoring locations: H1, H4B and H5 stream sites to collect water quality samples and engage attendees in hands-on monitoring techniques and learning about watershed stewardship.

    Please note: H1 is relatively easy to hike to, however H4B and H5 will require advanced hiking experience. We will be following uneven, primitive trails through trees and brush. Knee boots or waterproof footwear required. 

    Morning Hike Locations:

    • Morning Hike to H1: meet at H1 Hike Starting Point at 8:45am. 
    • Morning Hike to H4B and H5: meet in the parking lot of the Starbucks in Lusby at 9:45am. From there we will consolidate cars and drive ~0.5 mile to hiking location at wastewater treatment plant. 

    Afternoon Hikes (12-3pm): Educational hikes to monitoring locations: H3, H2 & H2B stream sites to collect water quality samples and engage attendees in hands-on monitoring techniques and learning about watershed stewardship.

    Please note: Hikes to H2, H2B and H5 will require advanced hiking experience. We will be following uneven, primitive trails through trees and brush. Knee boots or waterproof footwear required. 

    Afternoon Hike Locations:

    • Afternoon Hike to H2 and H2B: meet in the parking lot of the Starbucks in Lusby at 11:45am. From there we will consolidate cars and drive to hiking location at wastewater treatment plant. 
    • Afternoon Hike to H3: meet at 11785 Clifton Dr. at 1:45pm.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    1. All hikers must complete a waiver, provided below. 

    2. Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust will contact you in the case of cancellation due to inclement weather.
