Workshop Descriptions

Join us for two days of workshops presented by Maïté Agopian, in partnership with Fairbanks Arts Association. Each workshop will start in the Bear Gallery so participants can gather inspiration from her interactive exhibition, Luminous Darkness, before moving to the Blue Room to create their own whimsical works.

Each workshop will have attendees create a finished artwork that they can take home, and attendees do not need to attend multiple workshops to receive a complete experience. There are two workshops per day, one for families and one for adults. Please see "Workshop Times" below for details on which workshop is for what age group.

Shadow Puppetry: On Wednesday, February 18th, Maïté will guide you though making your own shadow puppets to play with and bring home. You will explore adding movable parts and discover ways to add textures and colors to your creation.

Masks in Shadow: On Saturday, February 21st, Maïté will show you how to make your own shadow masks, which change the way your body casts a shadow. Explore the new ways you can interact with shadows using your whole body.

Workshop Times

Shadow Puppetry: Wednesday, February 18th

• Workshop for Families (suggested age range of 8-12): 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
• Workshop for Adults: 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

Masks in Shadow: Saturday, February 21st

• Workshop for Families (suggested age range of 8-12): 10:30 - 11:45 a.m.
• Workshop for Adults: 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

All workshops will meet in the Bear Gallery, which is located on the third floor of the Centennial Center for the Arts in Pioneer Park.

All materials will be provided; no prior experience is required.

Important Information:

• Registration fees apply to each participant. Chaperones who are not participating in the workshop do not need to pay a registration fee to attend with their child.
• All participants under 18 must be chaperoned for the entire workshop by the adult listed on this form.

Fairbanks Arts Communications

By registering for a workshop, you are indicating that you have read, understand, and acknowledge the following requirements:

• I will arrive at the Blue Room at the designated workshop time.
• I understand that anyone under the age of 18 must be chaperoned by the adult whose information has been provided in this form for the entire workshop. I will not drop off my child and leave them at the workshop alone. If chaperone information must be updated, I will contact gallery@fairbanksarts.org or 907-251-8386 opt. 3.
• If I am registering on behalf of multiple people and select multiple workshops, I understand that I may be contacted to clarify who is going to which workshop.
• If I am unaware that my membership has expired and have chosen the current member pricing, Fairbanks Arts will inform me and ask me to renew. 
• Refunds can only be requested until Wednesday, February 11th; after that, Fairbanks Arts cannot refund the registration fee.
