We, the undersigned students, parents, educators, and community members of Seminole County, respectfully urge the Seminole County Public Schools Board and the Superintendent of Seminole County Public Schools to take proactive steps to address the growing use of vaping among students and on our campuses.
Vaping is a serious health concern that affects student well-being, academic performance, and long-term health. While prevention and discipline are important, support and education are essential for students who want help quitting.
We respectfully request that Seminole County Public Schools:
1. Provide clear, accessible resources on how to quit vaping on every high school and middle school campus, including referrals to trusted programs and support services.
2. Ensure that at least one trained staff member on each high school and middle campus - preferably the clinic assistant - is prepared to answer student questions and guide them to appropriate quitting resources.
3. Provide additional signage in outdoor campus spaces (e.g. stadiums, carlines, parking lots) to reinforce designated smoke- and vape-free campuses.
By equipping schools with consistent information and trained staff, SCPS can empower students to make healthier choices while demonstrating a commitment to student health and success. This approach emphasizes support over punishment and encourages students to seek help without fear or stigma.
We believe this is an achievable, meaningful step forward and welcome the opportunity to work together - students, families, educators, and district leaders - to create healthier school environments across Seminole County.
Thank you for your leadership, consideration, and continued dedication to the well-being of our students.
