RULES, REGULATIONS & IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
CATEGORIES
1. On entering into the Farm Gear Rural 'Ultimate 4' Category, you are only eligible for the prize(s) in that category. You cannot enter the same animal(s) into the Open Category(s). This applies to animal(s) weighed in the Open Category(s) which cannot be entered into the Farm Gear Rural 'Ultimate 4' category. You must pay & enter into both categories if you want to benefit from all the category prizes.
2. Farm Gear Rural 'Ultimate 4' - The prize winner will be the one that has the closest 'average weight' to the 'overall combined average weight'. The 'overall combined average weight' is calculated by the total weighed-in animal weights divided by the total number of animals weighed into this category. A hunting party's average weight is calculated by the sum of all 4 animal weights divided by 4.
3. The Farm Gear Rural 'Ultimate 4' Category is eligible to enter up to 4 Hunters as a Hunting Party. All hunters registered whether individual or in a team, will automatically receive one entry into the $2000 Gun City + Fishing Guided Thermal Voucher. Additional entries can be purchased for $5 each through this form or on the day of weigh-in.
4. Farm Gear Rural 'Ultimate 4' Category hunters can only weigh 1 animal per species. If you fail to hunt and enter all 4 species, you will not be eligible for any prize(s) in this category. If you are entered in a hunting party, all animals must be weighed together on 1 registered vehicle entered on this form. If you have multiple animals onboard, ensure the enterable animals to be entered & weighed are ready to ensure a smooth weigh in for everyone.
5. Open Category(s) - Only 1 animal per hunter, per category can be weighed in. Ensure the enterable animal(s) to be entered & weighed are ready to ensure a smooth weigh in for everyone.
6. All hunting categories must be chosen prior to the entry cut off date and cannot be entered or altered on the day of weigh-in. Please contact us if you wish to change or alter your selected category(s) if you have already submitted your entry.
7. Kahawai Challenge boundaries are from (Northern) Flat Rock Tongaio to (Southern) Clive River Mouth. Weigh in times are Friday 12-2pm (Hawkes Bay Sports Fishing Club, 30 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri), Saturday 12-2pm (Hawkes Bay Sports Fishing Club, 30 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri), Sunday at (Puketapu Park Domain) 10am-2pm. All Kahawai must be caught by land based fishing techniques - no boats.
8. 'Ugliest' & 'Best' Stag Head wil be judged by a sponsoring representative and will be solely at their discretion of the winning attributes for each winning animal.
9. Children can enter up categories, but not down.
PRIZES
1. Prizes can include cash and/or vouchers equivalent to the value of the named prize amount.
2. The Gun City + Fishing Guided Thermal Voucher spot prize is awarded as a $2000 voucher solely to be used at Gun City + Fishing Napier. You must be present at prize giving to receive this prize and cannot allocate someone else to act on your behalf. If the winner is not immediately there to collect their prize, it will automatically go to a redraw.
3. You must be at prize giving to be eligible for all spot prizes and to win otherwise it will automatically go to a redraw.
4. Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash.
TIMES & HUNTING LOCATIONS
1. Competition time begins 12:01am Friday 15th May 2026 and finishes 12pm Sunday 17th May 2026.
2. Weigh-in is strictly between 10am and 2pm Sunday 17th May 2026 at Puketapu Park, Dartmoor Road, Puketapu, Napier. This will be a drive through method and 2 lanes will form for animals to be weighed.
3. Prizegiving begins 3.30pm at Puketapu Park, Dartmoor Road, Puketapu, Napier. Please park appropriately and responsibly. Drinks & food provided.
4. Hunting is permitted throughout the North Island and is not restricted to public or private land however no illegal hunting is permitted at any time and is strongly frowned upon. It is the hunter's responsibility to know the land they are actively hunting on is legal.
ENTERED ANIMALS
1. Stags and boars to be completely gutted (prior to weigh-in).
2. Boars to have nuts in, pizzels out (prior to weigh-in).
3. Stags to have nuts out, pizzels out and throats removed (prior to weigh-in).
4. Pigs have no minimum weight and can be either sex.
5. It is the competitor’s responsibility to remove any waste / entrails and animals responsibly.
6. No animals shall be weighed after 2pm unless there is a queue into the weigh-in area to which the event organisers may adjust times as required.
7. Animal weights will be entered as kilograms.
8. In the unlikely event of 'average weight' between two parties being unanimously the same, count back will go on the heaviest of the two weighed animals.
LICENSING
1. Contestants must show all applicable licences and permits in accordance with all New Zealand laws whilst actively hunting. i.e. fire-arms licence(s) and hunting permits (if required). The event organisers hold the right to refuse an animal or if known or thought to be captured in an unfair or illegal manner.
DISQUALIFICATION
1. If the weigh master or event organisers suspect any animal presented is: not in a condition of expected quality (in terms of length of time since kill), or is frozen, or part frozen or appears to have been frozen and thawed, or shows signs of having been farmed, penned, caged or caught by illegal method, then the following protocol will be followed: the competitor will be given one opportunity to withdraw that animal; If that competitor refuses to withdraw the animal, then the weigh-master and event organisers will assess the animal and if unanimously agreed, will disqualify the hunter and their team.
2. Any person found to be causing a disturbance or disruption or acting in an aggressive manner e.g. fighting, yelling, offesive language, will be escorted from the premises by appropriate personnel and refused re-entry. At the discretion of the event organisers, the offender may have theirs and their team’s entries disqualified from the competition with no refunds given. The individual may be banned from entering the competition again for 5 years at the event organisers discretion.
3. Any person or persons found to have removed or suspected of removing animals from land and/or property that they are not legally allowed access to, will be referred to the New Zealand police for prosecution. No exceptions.
REFUNDS
1. In the unlikely event this event is postponed or cancelled due to adverse weather conditions or events outside the control of the event organisers, a postponement date will be decided on by the event organisers and details posted online through the Puketapu PreSchool Hunting Competition Facebook Page. If you are unable to enter into the new date(s), refunds will not be given.
2. If you have entered into this competition and are unable to participate in the competition for any reason, no refunds will be given.
DISCLAIMER
1. Photos taken during the competition are usable by the event organisers to promote and advertise the competition and any future competitions.
2. The event organisers have the ability to change, modify or adjust categories at any time if required for any reason that arises.
3. The event organisers will ensure to the best of their ability the safety of the hunters during the competition but it will be the hunters sole responsibility to act within reasonable means while hunting. The event organizers take no responsibility for any loss or damage to persons or property for the duration of the competition.
4. If at any time you have any questions or concerns regarding this event, you need to raise these directly with an event official. If they are unable to alleviate your concerns, you should not participate.
5. All information provided by entrants into this competition is deemed to be true & accurate with any false details being provided putting at risk the disqualification from the competition at the event organisers discretion.
