    Program Overview
    The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Orthopaedic Fellowship at our institution is a 12‑month post‑graduate training program designed to immerse new or early‑career physician assistants (PA) and nurse practitioners (NP) in the full scope of orthopaedic practice. Fellows will rotate through all major subspecialties, including non‑operative sports medicine, shoulder and elbow, hand and wrist, foot and ankle, spine, total joint reconstruction, pediatrics, trauma, outpatient surgery center, and inpatient orthopaedics. Each rotation includes hands‑on clinical experience, surgical exposure, didactic sessions, and benchmark assessments to ensure progressive competency.

    Responsibilities
    • Provide high‑quality patient care under the supervision of attending orthopaedic surgeons and experienced advanced practice providers.

    • Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations, formulate assessments and plans, and document encounters accurately and in a timely manner.

    • Assist in operative cases across subspecialties, including patient positioning, first assist duties, closure, and post‑operative management.

    • Perform procedures such as splinting, casting, joint injections and aspirations, suturing, and wound management.

    • Participate in on‑call duties, including after‑hours clinic coverage and weekend call, as scheduled during later rotations.

    • Engage in weekly didactic conferences, journal clubs, simulation labs, and leadership workshops; complete periodic examinations and skills check‑offs.

    • Contribute to research and quality improvement projects that align with the program’s academic mission.

    • Collaborate effectively with faculty, residents, fellows, and the multidisciplinary care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

    Qualifications
    • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.

    • Current (or eligible) licensure to practice as a PA or NP in the state prior to fellowship start date.

    • NCCPA certification (for PAs) or national board certification (for NPs).

    • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

    • Strong interest in orthopaedics; prior orthopaedic experience or rotations preferred but not required.

    • Ability to commit to a full‑time, 12‑month training program and rotate to various clinical sites.

    • Excellent communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to work both independently and within a team.
