Summer Programs
Reel Stories Boot Camp, Ages 11–15 | June 8–12 (tentative)
The Reel Stories Boot Camp is for girls and gender-expansive youth ages 11–15 who are new to filmmaking — no experience required.This five-day camp is a perfect first introduction to movie-making. Students write, film, and edit their own narrative short films using accessible technology they can continue to use at home.
Camp Reel Stories, Ages 13–17 | June 15–26, Monday–Friday (tentative)
Camp Reel Stories is a two-week immersive filmmaking experience for girls and gender-expansive youth ages 13–17. No prior experience is required.Campers work in teams to write, film, and edit original documentary or narrative films, supported by Reel Stories staff, mentors, and guest artists. In addition to staff-led workshops, students participate in Q&As with professional filmmakers from across the industry.Camp concludes with a public film festival at a local Bay Area theater, where students screen their work for friends and family. After camp, films are submitted to festivals throughout the year.
Reel Stories Institute, Ages 18–24 | July 6–10, Monday–Friday
Reel Stories Institute is a career-readiness and portfolio-development program for filmmakers ages 18–24 who are ready to take the next step in their creative practice. This summer we’re launching a refreshed version of Reel Stories Institute - a program designed for emerging filmmakers who want both real-world experience and meaningful time to focus on their own creative work. Participants join the summer as Reel Stories Producers, working alongside our teaching team during Bootcamp and Camp Reel Stories as paid teaching assistants. In these early weeks, Producers help support younger filmmakers in the studio - assisting with equipment, production logistics, and creative problem-solving while gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative filmmaking environment. Then, at the end of June, the focus shifts.The program culminates in Reel Stories Institute (July 6 - July 10) - a five-day creative intensive designed specifically for this producer cohort. After spending weeks working together in the camp setting, the group gathers for a dedicated week centered on their own projects.
