Mount Sequoyah Art Residency Application
Living Inspired on the Mountain
Creative Spaces at Mount Sequoyah has a mission to support emerging and professional artists of all mediums. One way we support artists is by offering a limited number of living quarters to emerging and professional artists at an affordable price as a way to help boost their career. Affordable housing is a challenge for everyone, but artists in particular, struggle to make ends meet when they are at critical tipping points in their careers. By giving artists an affordable place to live on campus, in close proximity to their art studio, we help dissolve the affordability barrier while also placing artists in an inspirational and supportive setting. The entire campus serves as a place of inspiration, community, and opportunity. Artists who live on campus find they are inspired and able to create more art. Additionally, Mount Sequoyah works in other ways to lift up artists during their time with us on the mountain including exhibition opportunities, community engagements, and potential paid teaching opportunities. Living space is evaluated on a case by case bases by the Mount Sequoyah Arts Committee. Leases are for one year. At the end of each year, a new residency application must be submitted and approved. Though residencies can sometimes last a long time, it is not designed to be a permanent living situation. The goal is to lift artists up and then allow them to move forward in their lives and careers.
