  • Morongo Basin Conservation Association Scholarship Application 2026-2027 Academic Year

    MBCA will award three $1000 scholarships to support college or university enrollment for three Morongo Basin students who have a strong interest in environmental and conservation issues. Any major or degree program will be considered, with a preference for STEAM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics). Among the three scholarships we expect to award one to a female student and one to an “arts” major in memory of local artist and conservationist Steve Rieman. Applicants must demonstrate in their application essay how environmental conservation relates to their educational and career goals.

     Applicants who do not meet the minimum eligibility requirements at the time of application will not be considered. Applications that are incomplete or received after the deadline also will not be considered.

    Scholarship Guidelines

    Criteria for scholarship award selection:

    • Scholastic achievement (minimum 2.50 GPA);
    • Demonstrated motivation to blend educational and career goals with a commitment to environmental conservation;
    • The quality of the student's essay;
    • Commitment to an educational path that begins with full-time enrollment at an accredited university or college in 2026-2027;
    • Demonstration of collaborative and leadership experience.

    Eligibility and application requirements:

    • Applicants must be a senior enrolled in a certified high school program and living within the Morongo Basin in the 2026-2027 academic year.
    • Applicants must be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution;
    • Applicants must submit at least two current letters of recommendation; one must be from a teacher and the second may be from a teacher, counselor, school administrator, employer, coach, or community leader.

    To Receive Scholarship funds:

    • The student must provide proof of full-time enrollment (12 semester units or 16 quarter units or the equivalent).

    Disbursement of Scholarship

    Upon proof of full-time enrollment for fall term 2026, a check for $1000.00 will be disbursed to the student.

  • ESSAY: Applicants must upload an essay of no more than 500 words. It should be formatted in 12-point font, double spaced and include a cover page with the title of your essay and your name. Your name should be on the cover page only.

    2. Describe your career goals and what motivates you to pursue a career in  environmental conservation or a similar field.
