  • Tompkins County Recycling and Materials Management (TCRMM) is piloting a 12-month curbside pickup program for residents interested in sustainably disposing food scraps.

    Please note: Pilot areas include parts, but not all, of the City of Ithaca, and not all homes are eligible. The pilot areas consist of areas within the Northside and Southside Neighborhoods, which are addresses geographically defined as: 

    • Northside:
      • south and east of Meadow Street
      • west of and including Lake Avenue
      • north of and including the north side of Cascadilla Street
    • Southside:
      • east of S Meadow Street 
      • west of S Cayuga Street and W Spencer Street 
      • north of Elmira Road 
      • south of Green Street
      • excluding Clinton Street (NY-96B)

  • What is accepted for Food Scraps Recycling?

    You can set out all food scraps for pick-up including: Meat, bones, eggs, eggshells, and dairy; Fruits and vegetables; Bread, grains, and beans; Coffee grounds and tea bags. You can also include: Food-soiled paper napkins and towels; BPI-certified compostable liners; Paper bags and newspaper when used as a liner. The following items are not accepted: Plastic bags; Fruit stickers; Diapers and pet waste; Compostable plastic cups, utensils, and other service-ware.
