    Location: Chugiak, Alaska

    You must have already taken the basic wildland firefighter courses (S-130, S-190, I-100, IS-700 & L-180), have a valid Red Card and be Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) qualified. If you have taken the Red Card class and have NOT attended your field day or taken your pack test at the time of application, please make sure you complete these obligations BEFORE the start of the Academy.

  • Do you have a current Red Card rating of Firefighter Type 2*

  • Are you mentally and physically prepared to commit to the Intermediate Academy?*

    If the applicant is chosen to participate, the sponsoring DOF Area Office will be responsible for:(a) Hiring the participant as an employee of the local Area Office(b) Providing the participant with ongoing opportunities and mentorship to further her/his continued development. This includes rostering of the employee on a fuels crew/module or staffing for Initial Attack during periods of high fire danger or staffing shortfalls.
